Superstar - Harry Fanfic
Superstar – Chapter 1
“Jocelyn, come on! We’re going to miss our flight!”
I quickly threw my favourite book into my suitcase and zipped it up while making sure I remembered everything. As soon as my suitcase was shut, I hurried down the stairs. My mother was not patient and if I am not in that car in less than 20 seconds, I’ll be walking to the airport. I slipped on my black and white converse and rushed out the door. I threw my suitcase into the trunk and plopped in the backseat with my brother, Jordan.
“Alright guys! New York here we come!” said my mother.
I have to be honest; I’m not really looking forward to this trip. The only reason I had agreed to tag along is so that I had an excuse to skip school for two weeks. At least Lindsay and her stupid pink-polished, perfect crew won’t be able to torture me while I’m in New York. Or at least I hope so. I reached into my sweater pocket and took out my cell phone. I wanted to text my best friend, Emma before she lost her cell phone service for two weeks as she was also going on vacation for winter break. Except Emma was going to the Dominican and she isn’t bringing her cell phone with her. I opened up BBM and clicked on Emma’s name.
*****
“Hey Emma! Just wanted to say I’ll miss you while I’m in New York! Have fun in Punta Cana! See you when I get back!”
*****
10 minutes later, still no reply. Guess it’s just me and my iPod for this trip.
Superstar – Chapter 2
I clenched onto my arm rest with my life as our plane made it’s descent into New York. The lady that was sitting beside me must have thought I was either constipated or having a stroke. The look on her face wasn’t exactly a happy face. It’s not my fault I’m afraid of flying. I’m 16 and I’ve never been on a plane before. How could I not be scared? All I’ve ever heard about planes is that they fall out of the sky.
I drew my attention back to the woman beside me who was obviously just as nervous as I was. She was not helping so I turned my head towards the window and admired the beautiful view of New York. It was about 5:00pm there and wasn’t quite dark yet but I could just imagine the glowing streets and bright lights once the sun goes down. Maybe this trip wasn’t going to be so bad after all. Maybe it won’t be as horrible as I thought it to be. By the end of the next two weeks, I could be the happiest girl alive. But of course, that will all be ruined as soon as I walk back into school after this trip is over.
My family and I walked into the airport and it was like a ton of weight had just been lifted off my shoulders. We had landed in New York safely. After a long, pointless debate about how to get to the baggage claim, we found the large crowd of people and waited patiently for our luggage.
After waiting for about 5 minutes, I finally saw my big, ugly brown luggage. I made my way through the crowd and swiped my luggage off of the sliding thing that reminds me of a treadmill for some reason. As soon as my luggage was in the air, I realized how heavy it actually was and I ended up losing control of it. Before I knew it, I had hit a boy in the face with it. I dropped my luggage and my eyes wondered to the boy who now had his back on the floor.
Superstar – Chapter 3
“Oh my gosh! I am so sorry!” I stammered. “Are you okay?!”
He ran his fingers through his brown, curly hair and shook it out. He let out a little chuckle and smiled.
“I’m fine but, you might want to check your luggage. I think there are bricks in it.” He said still smirking adorably.
I’ve only been in New York for about 15 minutes and I had already met an adorable boy, about my age that had the most adorable accent I’ve ever heard. His voice was raspy but soft and I could tell he was from England. I flashed him a smile and lent out my hand to help him up. He took hold of it and got back up on his feet.
“I’m Harry.” He said without letting go of my hand.
“Nice to meet you, Harry. I’m Jocelyn.”
We briefly shook hands and I let my hand slip from his. I glanced down at my luggage that was still on the floor and awkwardly bent down to pick it up.
“Let me get that.” He offered.
I admired how polite he was even after I had almost knocked him out cold. As he gladly handed me my suitcase, I noticed he had the most beautiful green eyes I’d ever seen. They were so mesmerizing, the way the lights made them sparkle.
“Umm, you alright?” he asked.
I realized how long I’d been staring at him and immediately looked away. Feeling embarrassed, I pulled out the handle on my luggage and proceeded to walk away. I stopped and turned back to see Harry was still watching me.
“Oh, thanks by the way.” I managed to say.
He smiled and nodded his head.
“No problem, Jocelyn.”
The way my name rolled on his tongue was so innocently sweet. I bit my lip and continued walking back towards my family. I felt like such and idiot. He was the most beautiful boy I had ever seen and I nearly just gave him a concussion.
When I joined my family once again, my mother wasn’t happy.
“Jocelyn, what took you so long? We have to get to our hotel!” She grunted.
I stared down at the ground and glanced back up at my parents who were impatiently waiting for something to come out of my mouth.
“It was nothing, let’s just go”
I turned back to see if I could spot Harry just one more time but he had already disappeared into the crowd of people. I sighed and dragged my luggage behind me as I walked off into what was now a very dark and cloudy New York afternoon.
Superstar - Chapter 4
“Jocelyn, you’ve been staring at your cell phone all through dinner. We organized this trip to spend quality time together, not so you can update your facebook status.”
I looked up from my phone to see that my whole family was staring at me in disapproval.
“Put it away, honey.” Said my mom.
I rolled my eyes and slid my phone into my coat pocket.
“Happy?” I said, raising my eyebrows.
My mom lost eye contact with me and drew her attention back to the dessert menu. I crossed my arms over my chest and stared blankly out the window. New York was a very pretty city at night. All the lights were so bright and beautiful. While admiring the beauty of the city, I noticed a Starbucks right down the street. My face lit up and I turned back towards my mom.
“Mom, can I go to Starbucks? It’s right down the street.” I said eagerly.
My mom made an odd face and sighed.
“Honey, don’t you want dessert?” she asked.
“Starbucks can be my dessert.”
My mom raised her eyebrow.
“Please mom!” I whined. “I’ll be two minutes.”
My mom just shook her head. “Go ahead.” I threw on my coat and dashed through the exit. “2 minutes Jocelyn, I mean it!” I heard my mom call right before I raced out the door.
As soon as I stepped outside, I was overwhelmed by the amount of wind that was blown into my face. It was freezing so I ran as fast as I could across the street and through the front doors of Starbucks. I smiled as I let the door shut behind me and admired the coffee menu. I took out my wallet and lined up behind 2 tall, blonde girls who seemed to be gossiping about a celebrity. I tried to ignore them while I debated what to order but I couldn’t help but listen in on their conversation.
“Oh my god can you believe he’s actually here?” One of the girls squealed.
“No! Oh god, he is so hot!” the other responded excitedly.
I turned to see who they were looking at and knew immediately who it was. The same boy I’ve been thinking about for the past 2 hours, the same boy with the mesmerizing green eyes. But this time, I realized was more than just a boy. He was Harry Edward Styles from the boy band, One Direction.
Superstar - Chapter 5
I felt my heart begin to race as I watched him take a sip of his coffee. His cheeks were bright red, same as his nose. He looked even more perfect than when I saw him at the airport earlier that day. I couldn’t believe this was actually happening. He was sitting right there, across the room from me. I debated with myself whether it was a good idea or not to go say hello. What if he didn’t remember me? I didn’t want to invade his privacy or make him think I’m a crazy, psycho fan. But, what if he does remember me? Then maybe I can-
“Hello, mam. May I help you?” My thoughts were interrupted by one of the Starbucks employees.
“Umm, yeah. I’ll have a tall Pumpkin Spice Latte please.” I replied.
While she was busy putting my order in, I spun my head back around to look at Harry. He was still sitting at one of the small tables by the window sipping his coffee. He removed his pink lips from the paper cup and placed it on the table. His hand reached into his jacket and he took out a long, black pen. He clicked it once and began to write something down on a napkin. My body was instantly over-taken with curiosity as I watched him scribble words onto the napkin.
“That will be $3.95” said the brunette behind the counter.
I gave her a smile and handed her the money. My heart still beating at top speed, I walked over to the next counter and put my hands around my warm drink. I grabbed one of the coffee lids from the counter and placed it on top of my drink without fully paying attention. Before I could catch myself, my drink toppled over and soiled my jacket.
“Shoot!” I exclaimed without realising how loud I had said it.
My cry of anger seemed to have caught Harry’s attention. He stood up from his chair, grabbed a few napkins and rushed over to me. I tried my best not to make eye contact with him while he offered them to me.
“Are you okay?” He asked innocently.
I bit my lip and accepted the napkin he had offered me.
“I’m fine. Thank you.” I replied, still not making eye contact.
I waited for him to walk away but he just stood there. Not knowing why he hadn’t gone back to his seat, I tilted my head upwards. As soon as my eyes made contact with his, his face lit up with joy.
“I know you!” He said excitedly. “It’s Jocelyn, right?”
I couldn’t help but let out a chuckle. He seemed so happy to see me. I moved a strand of my brown hair from my face and made contact with his beautiful green eyes once again.
“Yeah, I almost knocked you out earlier.” I joked.
“Yeah, you’re quite clumsy aren’t you?” he said with a smile.
When I didn’t reply, he took out a few more napkins from the counter and handed them to me.
“Here, why don’t you clean up your jacket and then come sit with me for a while.” He suggested. “I’m a little lonely over there.”
My stomach filled with butterflies as I began to clean the coffee from my jacket.
“Yeah, for sure!” I said a little too eagerly.
Harry turned and went back to sit at his table. I rushed over to the ladies room to make sure I looked presentable. As I finished cleaning myself up, I noticed that one of the napkins Harry gave me had writing on it. I threw the others away and began to read what it said:
I had never seen a girl so perfect.
She made it hard for me to breathe.
I’d walk another thousand miles,
just to have her next to me.
They looked like song lyrics, song lyrics about a girl. Who were they written for and why were they crossed out? I stared back at my reflection in the mirror and thought for a moment. Harry was already in love with a girl. There was no way to be with him now.
Superstar – Chapter 6
The door creaked slightly as I walked out of the restroom. Once I turned the corner, I noticed Harry was still waiting for me at the table. He had the biggest smile on his face as I approached him. I pulled out my chair and took a seat beside him.
“Are you all cleaned up now?” he asked.
“Mostly.” I said. “I still have a little bit of coffee in my shoes.”
Harry chuckled. He ran his hand through his lush curls and moaned as he stretched. His hand made its way across the table and he handed me a coffee cup.
“I felt bad that you spilled your drink so I bought you another one.”
What did he just say? It wasn’t even his fault that I my drink had fallen. Plus, I had just met him 2 hours ago! I stared at the drink in confusion and looked back up at him.
“Harry, you really didn’t have to. It was my fault an-“
“Shh. I don’t care. I did it because I wanted to.”
I felt my cheeks burn as I picked up the drink Harry had just bought me. He really was a sweetheart.
“Thank you. You’re very sweet but now, I owe you.” I said as I took another sip of my latte.
“Okay then, what can you do for me?” He said in a sinister tone.
“I can pay you back. How much was it?” I asked while reaching into my wallet.
Harry stretched across the table and put his hand on mine.
“No you don’t. Please put that away.”
I glared at him, unsure of what to say. I was just about to say something when my phone had started to ring inside my purse. I shuffled through all my things and pulled it out. It was my mom. My eyes widened and I let my hand meet my forehead. I was supposed to be 2 minutes. I’ve been here for almost 15 minutes. I quickly answered my phone and pressed it against my ear.
“Hello?” I said knowing I was in huge trouble.
“Jocelyn, if you don’t get your butt over here in 20 seconds, you will be spending the next two weeks in the hotel room.” Shouted my mom angrily.
I covered my phone with my hand and picked up my things.
“I’m so sorry.” I whispered to Harry. “But I have to go right now.”
Harry’s smile disappeared from his face as he got up from his seat and came to help me hold everything. I mouthed the words thank you as I walked out the door with my phone still pressed to my ear.
“Okay mom, I’m coming.” I said.
Just then, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I spun around to see Harry standing there with a cheeky grin on his face. My eyes wondered down to his hands that were stretched out in front of me. I smiled and quickly hugged him. His hug was so comforting and warm. It was a relief from the cold snow that was gently falling from the dark, New York sky. I could feel his warm breath against my frozen cheek as I pulled away and ran across the street to the restaurant. As I opened up the door I looked back to see Harry waving at me from the other side of the road.
“Goodbye, love!” he shouted.
Love. He called me love. I felt my heart race inside my chest as I made my way back to my table. My mom and dad already had their coat on while Jordan was ominously playing on his DS. My dad lifted his head to see I was back from Starbucks and nodded.
“Alright, let’s go.” He muttered. “Jordan, put your DS away and grab your coat.”
My brother rolled his eyes and zipped his DS back into its case. He slipped his arms through the sleeves and we all rushed out of the restaurant to try and signal a taxi. Of course, the first thing I did when we got outside was look to see if I could see Harry but he was long gone. I noticed that I still had the drink he bought me in my hands so I took a sip. I was completely oblivious to what was happening around me as tens of thousands of thoughts raced through my mind.
“Jocelyn, get in the cab!” screamed my mom angrily.
I jumped back and climbed into the back seat of the cab with my mom and my brother. As soon as I slammed the door shut, the cab took off and I left behind everything that happened with me and Harry. I’d never see him again anyways.
Superstar – Chapter 7
“Wake up sleepy head! We’re going out for breakfast!” I was awakened by my brother who was tossing my shoulders back in fourth in attempt to get my eyes open.
“Wait! What time is it?” I asked.
“Umm, 9:00am. Why?”
My expression became stone-faced and I threw my covers back over my head. I wasn’t going out to breakfast this early. My brother took the covers once again and pulled them back off. I gave him the death stare to make him go away but he just sat there with a stupid grin on his face. I sighed and brought myself up into a sitting position.
“Alright, I’m up.” I whined. “Where are we even going anyways?”
I could hear my mom and dad in the bathroom trying to get ready as quickly as possible. My mom’s voice echoed when she finally spoke.
“There is this great breakfast place around the corner that your father and I saw on the way here.”
“It’s supposed to be amazing!” my father added.
I dragged my body out of the comfortable bed and walked over to my suitcase. I picked out a red long-sleeved top and blue skinny jean. My parents were still in the washroom so I grabbed my cell phone out of my coat pocket and plopped back down onto the bed. I wanted to check my text messages just in case Emma responded to the text message I left her the day before. She replied! I began to read her rather wordy text message to myself with a big smile on my face.
*****
“Hey Jocelyn! I’m so sorry I couldn’t respond earlier! My mom confiscated my phone because I didn’t make my bed yesterday. I think she’s on her period to be honest. LOL. Are you having fun in New York? I bet it’s amazing! I know it must be a little boring because I’m not there of course but you can try to live without me, right? I’m just joking of course! I’m leaving for Punta Cana today so I guess I’ll talk to you in two weeks! I love you!”
*****
I let out a small chuckle and put my phone back into my coat pocket. When I did, I heard something crumple loudly. I figured it was probably a candy wrapper that I forgotten to throw out earlier. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small piece of folded paper. I stared at it in confusion. When did I put this in my pocket? I unfolded it slowly to find a phone number written in black pen on it. I inspected it carefully, trying to figure out whose number it could be. After coming to no conclusion, I flipped it around to find something written on the back:
“Call me
- Harry”
Surprisingly, the first thing that came to mind when I read that was: How the hell did he get that in my pocket? It must have been when he hugged me outside of Starbucks. Remembering that hug made me smile bigger than I ever had before. I stared down at the piece of paper in my hand.
Why would he want me to call him? He was already in love with some other girl. He was probably just trying to be nice. As I folded the paper back up, I bit my lip slightly. Should I call him?
“Jocelyn do you still need the bathroom? We’re done.” Said my mom.
I interrupted the thoughts that were racing through my mind and headed over to the bathroom. I shut and locked the door behind me and quickly changed into the outfit I had picked out. I pulled my dark brown hair into a high ponytail and smiled at my reflection in approval.
What would I say if I called him? I wouldn’t know how to start the conversation. I would probably ask stupid questions like my relatives do when I’m on the phone with them. It will be the most awkward conversation I’ll ever have.
I took one more look at myself in the mirror and sighed. But what would Harry think if I didn’t call him? He’ll think I’m not interested in talking to him or being his friend. Then what? I’ll miss out on my chance to be with him. Even if he did love another girl, maybe I could change his mind.
“We’re leaving now, Jocelyn.” My dad said.
I rushed out of the bathroom, slipped on my converse and followed my family to the elevators.
“I’m going to call Harry as soon as I get back.” I promised myself.
Superstar – Chapter 8
I sat there on the comfy hotel room bed, staring at my phone. My family was in the other room watching some cheesy movie on TV. I was just about to dial Harry’s number when my mom entered the room.
“Are you sure you don’t want to watch this movie with us, Honey? It’s really funny!” She said, obviously trying really hard to convince me to come and watch it with her. Although, I really wasn’t in the mood for a comedy.
“I’m sure, mom. Just go enjoy the movie, don’t worry about me.” I assured her.
My mom sighed and shut the door. As soon as I could no longer hear her, I dialled Harry’s number into my cell phone. I pressed the phone to my ear and listened to it ring. It seemed like forever, waiting for him to pick up. To pass the time, I tapped my fingers nervously on my knee while I listened for Harry’s voice but there was nothing. I had reached his answering machine.
“Hello, you’ve reached Harry. I’m sorry I can’t answer right now but leave me a message after the beep! I’ll ring you back as soon-“
I quickly ended the call before the message could finish. I didn’t want to have to leave him a long, awkward voice mail. At that moment, I made the assumption that maybe he couldn’t get to the phone in
time and he would call me back right away. So I just waited there, staring at the home screen of my cell phone waiting for Harry’s number to appear.
After 2 minutes, I had given up. I threw my phone back down and slid myself off the bed. He wasn’t calling me back. I walked over the door to my parent’s room and wrapped my hand around the door knob when suddenly; I heard my ring tone sing. I spun back around and jumped onto the bed. I pulled my phone up to my ear and answered it before even checking who it was.
“Hello?” I said, hoping to hear Harry’s voice in response.
“I see you found my number. Good work, detective.”
A smile spread across my face and I felt my stomach fill with butterflies at the sound of Harry’s voice.
“Yes, indeed I did.” We both laughed. His laugh was so incredibly adorable; it made it hard for me to remember how to breathe. “How did you even get it in my pocket without me knowing?”
“I’m just that sneaky.” He joked. I waited in awkward silence for him to say something else. “So what are you doing?”
“I’m just laying here on the bed in my hotel room.”
I am so boring. I thought to myself. He’s probably out somewhere at a fancy restaurant and I’m just here in my bedroom doing nothing.
“Hey, what hotel are you staying at?” He asked eagerly.
It took me a while to respond as Harry’s voice had completely wiped my mind of all thoughts.
“Umm, the Hilton, why?” I finally responded.
I heard him gasp on the other end of the phone.
“Me too! What room are you staying in?” He shouted. He seemed to realize that he was getting a little too excited and cleared his throat, toning down the mood. “I mean, if you don’t mind telling me.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t mind.” I assured him. “I’m in room 209.”
I waited for Harry’s response but instead I heard silence. Had he hung up on me? I kept the phone pressed against my ear, just in case. Maybe he was doing something important and had to set the phone down. I bit my lip, waiting for the sound of his voice but instead, I heard a knock at the door.
Superstar – Chapter 9
I was startled by the loud pounding against the wooden door. Suddenly, I became very curious as to who was behind it. I jumped off the bed and made my way towards the ominous knocking. When I reached the door I stretched up on my tip-toes and gazed through the peep hole of my hotel room door. I couldn’t believe who was on the other side.
I twisted the lock slowly and creaked open the door, making sure my family wasn’t aware of what was happening before opening it all the way. Once the door was fully opened, Harry stood there with his hands in his pockets and his usual cheeky grin that made me weak in the knees. I couldn’t help but let the sides of my lips curve into a smile.
“Hi, neighbour!” He shouted.
“Shh!” I hushed him. “My parents are in the other room and my dad would freak if he saw a boy here.”
His big smile switched into a guilty smirk. I listened to make sure my parents were still watching the movie then turned my attention back to Harry.
“Wait, how did you get here anyways?” I asked suspiciously.
He outstretched his arm and pointed towards the right side of the hallway.
“I’m in room 211.” He said.
“That makes more sense.” I laughed.
We stood there in awkward silence. He coughed to fill in the empty space and brought his hand up to shake out his perfect, brown curls.
“I was wondering if you wanted to come down to the pool with me.” He finally spoke.
My face lit up at the thought.
“I’d love to! But, I have to make sure it’s okay with my mom first.” I said, obviously irritated.
“Go ahead. I’ll be right here.”
He lifted up his thumbs amusingly and flashed his knock-out smile. I closed the door halfway and stepped over to my parents’ room. The doorknob squeaked as I twisted it and poked my head into the room. They noticed right away and switched their attention away from the TV.
“What’s wrong, Joss?” asked my mom.
“I was just wondering if I could go down to the pool for a swim.” I said innocently.
“You’re leaving us again?” my dad joked, changing the subject.
“Is that a yes?” I asked, focusing on my question.
“Go ahead but be back by six and-” I shut the door before my dad could finish and grabbed my bikini.
I didn’t have the best body but I was still fairly thin. I had lost over 80 pounds since the 10th grade. My face crunched at the memory of the worst day of my life: Lindsay Hamilton’s pool party.
***
“Ew, what are you doing here?” Lindsay spat. Lily and Maggie, her obnoxious girl posse, laughed along with everyone else.
My best friend, Emma moved in front of me to try and defend me.
“I brought her.” She said.
“Well I didn’t invite that ugly twat so if you don’t mind, you can get out of here.”
Everyone stopped what they were doing and drew their attention towards us. Even the music had stopped. Emma couldn’t think of anything else to say so Lindsay continued.
“I mean, come on. You’re fat, you’re ugly; basically, you’re just a waste of space. So why don’t you just drop dead.”
At that point, the whole school was laughing at me and cheering Lindsay on. I could feel the tears streaming down my face as I ran out of there as fast as I could. I ran all the way home without looking back.
That day was the very first time I truly hated myself and I remember it clearly.
I rushed straight up to my room and took one look at my puffy, swollen face in the mirror and screamed at myself.
“You’re ugly! You’re so ugly! No one will ever love you!” I shouted angrily.
I stammered through my sobs and slowly fell to the ground. I had given up.
***
I stared down at my left wrist and shamefully studied the scars. I had been clean for over 2 months now and I was extremely proud of myself.
I snapped back to reality and went to check on Harry at the front door.
“Shall we?” he asked with his arm extended out to me.
I gave him an awkward smile and linked my arm with his
“We shall.”
Superstar – Chapter 10
As soon as I walked out of the change room I saw Harry standing there waiting for me. He looked like an angel, the way he stood there, shirtless, with his usual cheeky grin on his face. I caught myself staring so I quickly dropped my head down and swiped my bangs out of my face.
“Hi.” He said his eyes staring directly into mine.
“Hi.” I replied sarcastically.
He let out the most adorable laugh I’ve ever heard and I felt my heart beat grow stronger.
“Are we going swimming or not because I’m cold?” He asked.
“Yeah, that’s why I came here.”
He laughed again, this time, a little harder. I loved making him laugh. His laugh made me feel loved.
“Alright then! Come on!” he said excitedly.
We spent the next hour jumping around in the pool, splashing each other and having breath holding contests. I had never had so much fun with anyone. The way he always had to win, the way he didn’t care what the people around us thought. He really brought out the best in me. I couldn’t imagine having a better day.
“Want to go in the hot tub now?” he asked. “It’s getting cold in here.”
“I’m a little cold too.” I replied honestly. The pool really was freezing, I felt like I was swimming in the arctic ocean.
Before I was even aware that Harry had gotten out of the pool, he started to run across the wet floor and nearly fell on his face. I jumped out of the pool and raced him to the hot tub.
“Ahhhh.” We both moaned as we slipped in.
After we had gotten used to the heat, I turned my head towards Harry and smiled.
“So where are the boys?” I mindlessly asked.
My head overflowed with worries after I realized what I just said.
“So you do know who I am.” He said stone faced.
Shoot! Now he’ll think I’m an obsessive fan! He’ll think I’ve been using him all this time! What have I done?!
“I thought you had no idea who I was!” He exclaimed.
He had interrupted my thoughts and replaced them with confusion.
“What? Of course I know who you are.”
I’m an idiot. I thought to myself. Now he’s going to think I’m nuts.
“Okay, good.”
Wait, what? This was a good thing?
I just stared at the water, pondering what to say next. I had really began to fall for him after that day at the pool, I couldn’t lose him just yet.
“Are you okay, Jocelyn?” He asked, concerned.
“You can call me Joss, if you want.”
He smiled.
“Are you okay, Joss?” He corrected himself.
“You don’t think I’m a crazy fan?”
He laughed his adorable laugh and shook out his curls as he’s done many times before.
“No, why would you say that?” he asked.
“I don’t know, I guess I just thought that you would think I was using you.”
He turned his head to look at me.
“Well are you?”
“Of course not.”
“Then I don’t think you’re using me.”
When I didn’t reply he turned his head back to face forward.
“The boys are in England. I’m here with my mom and my step-dad on vacation.” He explained.
I felt his eyes on me as I ran my hand up and down my arm.
“How long are you here?” I asked curiously.
“Two weeks.”
I felt the corners of my lips turn upwards.
“Me too.”
“Surprise, surprise.” He said sarcastically. “We seem to have a lot in common.”
As usual, I didn’t know what to reply so I gave him a smile. I stared back down at the water and we resumed our awkward silence.
“Guess we’ll be spending a lot of time together.” He said.
I thought for a moment of all of the wonderful things we could do together; how much fun we would have together. After just this one day, I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life. I can’t imagine my life after these next two weeks.
“I guess so.” I said.
Then, I felt his fingers intertwine with mine.
Superstar - Chapter 11
I looked at him one last time before I shut the door..
“I had a lot of fun Harry, thanks.” I said to him.
He smiled and for the first time, I noticed he had the most adorable dimples.
“You can call me Haz, if you want.” He said, mocking me about earlier.
“Goodbye, Haz.” I said and I shut the door slowly.
I watched him turn and walk away through the peep-hole in my hotel room door. Once he was out of sight, I took a deep breath and let my face light up with all of the emotions I could no longer control. My stomach was overwhelmed with butterflies as I began to twirl around my room with a huge smile on my face. I plopped down onto my bed and re-ran all of the events that had happened that night.
***
“Harry! Stop it!” I shouted while he proceeded to splash me with all of his might.
“Shouting isn’t going to help you.” He said.
I gave him my evil stare and began to splash him back, even harder than he had.
“Whoa, calm down!” He squealed. “Do you know how long it takes to do my hair like this?”
I continued to splash him while laughing so hard I could barely breathe.
While trying to catch my breath, I felt Harry’s arms wrap around my waist.
“I’m going to throw you.” He said sternly.
Still laughing, I tried to make him release me but his grip was too tight. Next thing I knew, I was up in the air and then I plopped back down into the water.
When I brought myself back out of the water, Harry was laughing even harder than I was.
“I hate you.” I murmured.
His humorous laughter quickly changed to a fake, sappy puppy dog pout.
“What have I ever done to you?” He sobbed.
I raised my eyebrows.
“You just whipped me up into the air!” I exclaimed.
He scratched his head as if trying to remember.
“No, no I don’t think I did.” He lied.
“That’s it!” I shouted and I dashed over to him and playfully jumped onto his back.
“Hold on!” he shouted, grabbing onto my thighs.
We began to spin so fast that I couldn’t even see the pool anymore. After almost passing out from dizziness, we both dropped back into the water.
We looked at each other and began to laugh once again. hit was as if everyone around us didn’t matter; like there was nobody else around us. It felt like it was just us two.
***
I felt my cheeks burn up at the thought of that perfect moment. I had to find more time to be with him. After all, we only had two weeks together before he had to go back to working 24/7.
We would probably never see each other again after this vacation. I live in Wisconson, he lives in England. It just didn’t make sense that we’d hang out anymore.
Two weeks. I thought. I have two weeks to make him mine.
and I would do anything, to make that happen.
Superstar - Chapter 12
“Okay, mom! I know!” I shouted to my mother who was continuously reminding me that in 10 minutes, we were going to eat breakfast downstairs in the lobby. She might have been nagging me because I was still in bed after she had woken me up about 5 times. I groaned and pulled myself out of bed.
Today, there was a special Christmas themed breakfast from 7:00am - 11:00am. It was weird to think Christmas was in two days. I still remember summer like it was yesterday.
I dug through my luggage to find my plain white V-neck tee shirt and my grey sweatpants from American Eagle that I had just bought the night before. It was really hard to focus on shopping though when all I could think about was Harry. I think it was safe to say that he liked me back. After all, he did hold my hand.
I began to remember about the day I saw him at Starbucks. He had given me a napkin with song lyrics on them.
Maybe they weren’t for another girl, I thought.
I dragged my half-awake body over to the bathroom and piled my hair into a messy bun at the nape of my neck. I applied a bit of mascara so that I didn’t look like I had just woke up from the dead and my family and I headed down to the Christmas buffet in the hotel’s main restaurant.
It was quite crowded down there. It seemed like forever waiting in line to get to our food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very joyful, I admit. Green, red and white decorations covered the whole room. There was also very relaxing Christmas music playing on the overhead speakers. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
When we had gotten to the buffet table, I was surprised by the amount of effort put into the food. There were pancakes shaped like ornaments, Santa Claus muffins, even special Christmas coloured cereal! It was pretty impressive.
I decided to take some pancakes and milk. I really wasn’t very hungry that morning. I slowly made my way through the crowd to find a table for 4. I scouted for a while with no luck. It was completely packed.
Except for one table for two. But, only one of the seats was available. I walked over to that area, hoping there were more tables that I hadn’t noticed yet.
I passed the table for two and saw that it was Harry who was eating alone. He was chomping down on two ornament pancakes and a bowl of Cheerios.
“Hey, Stranger!” I said cheerfully.
He drew his attention away from his, what seemed to be very delicious, food and stared right into my eyes. His charming smile appeared and he stood up to greet me.
“Jocelyn!” He shouted.
He outstretched his arms and gave me a nice, warm bear hug.
“What are you doing here alone?” I asked.
“My mom doesn’t care much for crowds so her and my step-dad just ordered room service.” He explained. “I on the other hand, love a good Christmas feast.”
“But it’s just breakfast.” I mumbled.
“It’s still food!” He exclaimed. I tried to control the amount of butterflies in my stomach while I watched him slide his hands into his pockets and sway back and forth on his heels.
“Are you here alone too?” He asked.
“Sadly, no. My family is still getting food.”
“Maybe they’ll let you eat here with me.” He suggested.
“Yeah, I’m sure they won’t mind.” I said mindlessly.
I placed my tray down onto the table and dropped into the seat on the other side of the table.
“You look really nice today.” He murmured.
I looked up from my food almost immediately. He was obviously just trying to make conversation, I looked like crap that day.
“As do you.” I replied enthusiastically.
Except I meant it. He really did look great. He always looked great. It was like he didn’t have a single flaw. His hair always framed his face perfectly, his eyes always shined, his smile was always white. He was perfect.
“Umm, Jocelyn.” I recognized my mothers voice and quickly looked up.
“Who’s this?” she asked sternly.
“Mom, this is Harry. I met him at the pool yesterday.” I lied.
Harry just nodded and played along.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mrs.” He said politely.
He extended his hand and shook hers gracefully. My mom smiled. She obviously admired his politeness.
“You too, Harry.” She said. “I guess you can eat here, Joss. We’ll go find another table.”
“Are you sure, mom?”
“Of course!” She said convincingly. “You two have fun.”
My dad looked at her like she was mad as they walked off. I turned my head back to Harry and laughed.
“She’s lovely.” He said, still smiling.
I laughed. “She’s a little much sometimes.”
We both began to eat our breakfast. We sat in silence for a while but this time, it wasn’t awkward silence. It was almost a comfortable silence. I liked the way that felt.
“So what are you doing later on?” He asked, still blandly chewing on his cereal.
“Nothing, really. My mom wants to go to this museum but I’m not really up for it.” I said honestly.
“Maybe,” He paused. “You could come skating with me?”
My cheeks became toasty and my smile grew bigger.
“Sounds great!” I replied.
Superstar - Chapter 13
The Christmas breakfast was better than I had imagined it to be. Probably because I spent over an hour sitting at that table with Harry talking about the ice rink we were going to. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to go skating in my life.
It’s a good thing I brought my skates with me on this trip. My mom was insisting that I didn’t need them but like always, I was right.
I tore through my suitcase trying to find something decent to wear. Of course, I remembered to bring skates but I didn’t bring nice clothes. The only thing I could find was my tight-fitting black dress that I had brought to wear on New Years eve. I thought about wearing it but I wanted to save it for it’s purpose. I folded the dress back up and continued to search or something to wear. I finally stumbled upon my black skinny jeans and my purple blouse. I smiled in admiration at the outfit I had chosen and pranced over to the bathroom.
I glared at my reflection in the mirror but wasn’t too pleased with the result. I smothered on a sparkly, winter mood eyeshadow and black eyeliner to go along with my mascara that I had already applied earlier. I decided to throw on some pink lipstick too, just to even out the amount of make-up on my eyes.
I stepped back from the mirror and scanned myself to make sure I looked flawless. Or at least, close to flawless. It really didn’t matter because Harry would certainly look better than me no matter how hard I tried.
Harry was coming to pick me up at 3:30 to go skating. We were going alone so he wanted to go out before it got dark. That made me like him even more. I have no idea why, it was just cute.
I wasn’t really sure how long it had been since I started to get ready. I raced out of the washroom and checked the clock. He would be here in 15 minutes. I was relieved that I had finished getting ready and with a lot of time to spare.
I spent the last 15 minutes straightening my hair. I wasn’t originally planning to do that because I was afraid I wouldn’t have enough time.
Knock, Knock, Knock.
I nervously inspected myself one more time then raced to the front door of my hotel room.
I grabbed hold of the doorknob and exhaled once before opening the door to Harry’s big, cheeky smile.
“Hey, Joce-” He stopped and his shiny, green eyes grew wider.
“Wow, you look great.” He said giving me a shy, half smile.
“Thanks.” I replied. “But I have some pretty good competition.”
“Where?” He said sarcastically while looking around frantically.
I couldn’t help but laugh. He was adorable.
“Mom, I’m leaving now!” I shouted before slipping on my brown Uggs.
Harry held the door for me as I walked out of my room holding my figure skates.
“Thank you.” I said still chuckling a little.
He let the door shut and we walked over to the elevators. Once we were on our way down I decided to check out Harry’s outfit. He was wearing brown slacks with a nice, white shirt and a darker brown blazer on top. He had on a black beanie and a fuzzy scarf as well. I was right, He did look flawless.
The elevator doors opened to let us out into the lobby and we walked over to the front doors of the hotel. We still hadn’t said a word to each other as we began to walk towards the skating rink.
“How far is it?” I asked impatiently.
Walking really wasn’t my thing
“Not far, don’t worry.” He smirked.
I looked up at him and he could see I wasn’t very satisfied with my answer.
“5 minutes tops.” He continued.
I turned my head to face forward again and admired the city which had snow sprawled all over the place. It looked so beautiful but it was quite cold. I wondered how long I would last before I needed a nice, warm hot chocolate.
“So where are you from?” Harry asked, not making eye contact with me.
“I’m from Wisconsin.” I moped.
“Wow, that’s really far from where I live.”
“Thanks for stating the obvious, Haz.” I joked.
He nudged me with his shoulder and we both laughed.
“So I guess we aren’t going to be hanging out much after this trip.”
I cringed at the thought. After these two weeks, I’ll never see him again.
“I mean, I know I haven’t known you for very long but, I’m definitely going to miss you.” He confessed.
I was glad to hear that he was going to miss me. Maybe not in the way I was going to miss him but it was nice to know he cared. Back in Wisconsin, no one ever really cared about me other than my best friend and my family of course. But I don’t remember the last time I really felt loved. With Harry, I felt so special. I finally felt like I mattered for once; that someone was happy I existed.
I always felt warm around him. He made me feel welcome.
“I’m going to miss you too.” I murmured
After walking in silence for a while, I realized we had arrived at the skating rink.
“Voila!” He shouted, gesturing his hands towards the huge rink.
I was in awe at the sight of what was almost like a little village. There were shops and little tables surrounding an absolutely beautiful rink, even in daylight. There were stringed lights hung everywhere and an enormous Christmas tree right in the middle.
“Wow.” I awed. “This is amazing.”
“I’ll assume you want to go skating.”
“Well, duh.” I joked.
He grabbed my hand and we ran over to the benches that were placed directly in front of the rink. I watched Harry slip on his skates and tie them tightly while I did the same. When he had finished he stood up and waited for me with his arms crossed.
“Come on, Joss!” He shouted impatiently.
“Alright! I’m coming! Calm your curls!” I shouted.
He began to laugh and lent me his hand to help me up then guided me onto the ice.
Superstar - Chapter 14
“Aren’t you cold?” I asked.
Harry had taken off his jacket and had on nothing but his white Tee shirt and slacks on. He grinned and rubbed up and down on his arms with his abnormally large hands, then shook his head.
“Nope. Well, we have been skating in a big circle for about 20 minutes,” He explained. ”it’s a bit of a work-out, don’t you think?”
I cocked my head to the side and came to realization that my nose and hands were completely frozen. I sniffled and shoved my hands deep inside my pockets. I really didn’t understand how he was casually skating with his arms exposed to the freezing cold.
Unexpectedly, Harry slid in front of me and stopped himself just close enough to knock me over. I jumped back but he grabbed my waist before I could fall. When I re-gained my balance, we gazed into each others eyes, his hands still around my waist. My body was pressed up against his, we were literally a lips distance.
He lifted one of his hands off of my waist and brought it up to swipe a strand of my hair out of my face.
He’s going to kiss me. I thought.
I lost contact with his gorgeous eyes and stared down at our bodies and bit my lip awkwardly. He became worried and stepped away from me. I really don’t know why he did, I wish he hadn’t. We were having the most perfect moment. He could have kissed me right then, he could have been mine, but I ruined the opportunity.
“Are you okay, Jocelyn?” He asked.
I could see the disappointment in his sad, green eyes as he shifted on his skates waiting for my reply.
“Yeah, I just-” I stopped and straightened out my jumbled thoughts. “Just forget it.”
“I’m sorry, I-I didn’t mean to t-touch you.” He stuttered.
“No, Harry it’s not that. Don’t worry.” I said, tongue-tied.
The situation had changed dramatically from romantic to incredibly awkward.
“I’m just a bit cold.” I lied.
I didn’t want him to feel like he did anything wrong. Because he didn’t, I did. I should have let him kiss me. I shouldn’t have over-reacted like I did, I shouldn’t have shown discomfort. But I did, and I missed my chance.
Now, we were skating awkwardly, side by side, but at a distance. He stopped and spun around again to face me.
“We can go inside if you want. There’s a coffee shop over there.” He suggested.
I shrugged, staring at the ground unsure what to say.
“I’ll buy you whatever you want” He sang, smiling.
I looked up into his eyes and smirked admirably.
“Yeah, I’d like that. But this time, I’m buying you something.” I said sternly.
He rolled his eyes amusingly, remembering our encounter at Starbucks.
“I did that because I wanted too.” He stated.
“Well, now is the time to pay you back.” I said stubbornly.
I smiled playfully and intertwined my fingers with his. He pulled me back to the benches without hesitating so we could take off our skates. I slipped my Uggs back on and we walked hand in hand over to the sweet smelling coffee shop, my heart still racing at top speed in my chest.
Superstar - Chapter 15
“Okay, what do you want” I asked Harry, who was standing beside me with the look of guilt on his face. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets while he pretended to decide what to order.
“I don’t want anything.” He finally spoke.
I saw right through him. He just didn’t want me to buy his drink.
“Yes you do, come on. Pick something or I’ll pick something for you.” I threatened him.
“Fine.” He moaned. “I’ll have a small hot chocolate.”
He stopped and re-comfirmed what he said.
“Small. Petito.” He said as he made a gesture of a small cup with his hands.
I gave him an accomplished smile and spun around to face the coffee counter.
“With marshmallows!” He added.
I took out my wallet and put in our order. 2 small hot chocolates, each with mini marshmallows. I payed the cashier and we took a seat at one of the tables by the front window.
I grasped my cup firmly in my hands in attempt to warm them up. The warm cup felt so nice against my frozen skin. I brought the cup up to my lips and took a sip, then looked up to see Harry do the same. His delightful smile appeared as he swallowed carefully.
“This is surprisingly delicious.” He exclaimed.
I laughed sincerely.
“What do you mean, surprisingly?” I mimed.
He took another gulp of the hot drink before answering me.
“Well, like this is a fairly new coffee shop and I didn’t expect the drinks to have such nice quality. The brands that have been around for a long time are usually a lot better than-“
He suddenly stopped in his tracks. I looked up at him to see him staring in shock at the glass doors that had just swung open. I couldn’t help but turn myself around to see what he was looking at. Whatever it was, he was surprised.
I was devastated to see that it was a tall, gorgeous girl. She had long, blonde wavy hair and sparkling green eyes, just like his. I looked away out of jealousy to see Harry get up out of his chair, and begin to walk towards her.
“Claire?!” He spoke in disbelief.
The girl turned around to face him and her face lit up immediately.
“Harry!” she exclaimed.
She ran right into his arms and they exchanged a long, emotional hug, her fingers clenching tightly onto Harry’s curls. My stomach churned at the sight. When she finally pulled away, I could see tears streaming down her face.
“I missed you so much.” She muttered to him.
Harry lifted a hand up to her cheek and wiped away her tears.
“I missed you too.” he replied. I could hear it in the way he spoke that he was crying too.
They hugged once more, this time longer. I spun around to avoid watching them. At that moment, I felt just as empty at the seat facing me.
“Who is she?” I mumbled to myself, tears forming in my own eyes.
Whoever she was, he sure liked her better than me. They had a long, dapper conversation in the middle of the coffee shop, completely oblivious to everyone around them. I tried my best to ignore them but I couldn’t help but get sickening chills down my spine every time Harry laughed at something she said.
That should be me making him laugh, not her.
I heard them exchange their goodbyes and I turned around just in time to see her walk out the door.
Harry watched her walk out and once she was out of sight, he began to walk back towards me, grinning admirably. He pulled out his chair and took his seat once again.
“I’m so sorry.” He blurted out as soon as he sat down comfortably in his chair.
I couldn’t even think to stop my thoughts from shooting right out of my mouth at that second.
“Who’s she?” I asked absurdly.
Superstar - Chapter 16
I could still see the tears in his eyes and on his cheek. His voice trembled while he talked.
“Umm,” He paused for a really long time, looking off into the distance and smiling. His eyes kept filling up with tears and he looked down at the ground each time.
“Harry, who is she?” I repeated myself.
“That girl you just saw,” He said, pointing at the front doors. “Was my best friend in the whole world.”
I suddenly dazed off into confusion.
“Then, Harry why are you-“
“Let me finish.” He interrupted.
I was startled by his harsh tone. Still wondering, I sat and listened.
“We met in Kindergarden when we were 4 years old. She was my first friend. We did everything together since then.” He stopped for a while then continued. “When we were 10, I sang to her. She couldn’t stop smiling. She told me I was the best singer in the whole world.”
I sat back and watched the tears stream down his rosy cheek.
“She was my first kiss, I was in love with her for so long. But the day after I kissed her, she moved away. But she never told me why, or where she went.” He stammered on his words.
“For the next 3 years, I tried to figure out where she had been. Even my mom didn’t know. She kind of just left.”
I tried to control my own tears from falling at that point. He really loved this girl.
“I never thought I’d see her again.” He added, smiling.
“So, she moved to New York?” I asked curiously.
“Yeah, I guess. I didn’t really have time to ask her anything, really.”
“Oh.” I said, biting my lip.
“That’s why I got her number.” He said, lifting up a small piece of paper. “I told her I’d call her and we’d catch up on everything.”
My heart dropped to my toes.
What? Was I really just a replacement for him? He doesn’t love me, he’ll never love me. I was just the first person he saw. He loves whoever that girl was; Claire.
I got up out of my seat and picked up my things.
“I have to go.” I stammered, tears welling up in my eyes.
I’ve never been hurt so badly before. He finally made me feel like I was worth something when really, Harry couldn’t care less.
“What? Jocelyn come back!” Harry shouted as I raced out the door.
I tried to run as fast as I could away from him, but I could hear him running closely behind me. Unfortunately, he caught up to me.
He grabbed my wrist and spun me around. His face reflected my sadness when he saw the tears running down my face.
“Jocelyn, what’s wrong?” He whispered, gazing into my eyes.
“Nothing.” I said, stone faced.
I tried to free my wrist from his hand but his grip was too tight.
“Come on, no one just runs away crying for no reason.” He said sympathetically. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
I stared into his eyes frailly, not saying a word. We stood there in silence, but he wouldn’t give up until he got my answer.
What I said next took all of my courage to say.
“I really like you, okay?” I shouted, my eyes still connected to his.
I began to cry, and not just one tear, I began to cry hysterically.
Harry pulled me into his arms, attempting to comfort me.
“Shh, Jocelyn stop crying.” He mumbled.
I pushed myself out of his embrace and looked up at him in disbelief.
“Stop crying? You’ve treated me like you really liked me ever since I met you, I thought I meant something to you, Harry! You’re not just another boy to me but to you, I’m just another girl!” I shouted.
We just stood there staring at each other afterwards. Before we could say anything else to each other, I spun around and began to walk away for the second time.
I hadn’t even thought to respond as I felt Harry grab my wrist and spin me around again, this time pressing his lips forcefully against mine.
Superstar - Chapter 17
That kiss sent an electric shock through my veins. Everything about that moment was perfect. The way my lips fit with his, the way I could feel him smiling, I’ve never felt more alive than in that moment.
When our lips finally separated, our eyes connected instantly and we both smiled in sync.
“Why did you do that?” I asked, electric currents still rushing down my spine.
“What do you mean, Joss?” He asked, confused.
“You said you were in love with that girl.” I reminded him.
He took my hand in his and brought his other hand up to my puffy cheek.
“Was in love with her. As in, past tense.” He joked.
I laughed along with him.
“Until I met you.” He whispered.
I felt my cheeks burn.
“But wait, why me?” I asked sincerely. “What makes me so special?”
Harry looked at me like I was and idiot. He shook his head and then smiled at the ground.
“Everything.” He said and then he looked back up into my eyes. “You’re not like other girls, Joss. You’re different.” He let my hand drop and he rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
“I would sing you a song but I don’t think words can express your beauty.”
My heart began to flutter and I threw myself into his arms, kissing him once again. This time, it was more passionate. It felt like every single nerve in my body was on a high wire. What Harry does to me is unexplainable. I can finally say I was truly happy in his arms. To know he was mine, meant everything to me. I’ve been heartbroken before, I’ve felt pain but with Harry, all of that went away.
Just then I felt something land on my nose. I looked up to see a bunch of little white snowflakes. Harry followed my gaze and we were both looking up at the dark, flurry sky.
“I didn’t even realize how late it is.” He laughed.
“We should get going before my dad has a heart attack.” I joked.
We began to walk, hand in hand, towards the same sidewalk we had walked on before. It was funny to think, not even 3 hours ago, we were walking on this sidewalk as friends, just friends. I was satisfied to know that now, we were much more than that.
“Wait a second, I have to ask you something.” I rushed through my words.
“What?” Harry laughed.
We stopped walking and stood there still, our hands still cradled together.
“You gave me this napkin-” I reached into my pocket and pulled out the crossed out song lyrics. “-when we met at Starbucks.”
He smiled, biting his lip shyly.
“You kept it?” He interrupted, still smirking at me.
I nodded my head and continued.
“Who were they for?” I finished.
“You.” He murmured.
“Why are they crossed out?” I wondered.
“I told you already.” He said and we began to walk again. “Words can’t express your beauty.”
I put the napkin back into my pocket and rested my head on his shoulder as we walked.
“I’ll assume you still have the paper with my phone number too.” He joked, mocking me.
“Actually, I do.” I smiled.
He stared at me, I could see my reflection in his sparkling eyes.
“We only have 11 days together.” He moped.
My smile disappeared from my face. He just had to remind me.
“I know.” I assured him.
“What’s going to happen after that?” He asked.
I stared up at the sky, thinking of what to say.
What would happen?
“I don’t know.” I said honestly. “But I think we should focus on whatever time we have to be together.”
He stopped walking instantly.
“Then let’s not go back to the hotel.”
“What? Where would we-, How would-” I couldn’t continue, I didn’t know what to say.
“Not forever, just for the rest of the night.” He suggested.
“What am I going to tell my parents?” I said, still wondering what could be going through his mind.
“Just tell them you are going to stay out a little longer than what we planned.”
“But Harry, where are we going to go?”
“Just follow me!” He said and he began to run in the other direction.
Superstar – Chapter 18
I looked towards my hotel once more before I chased after Harry as fast as I could to catch up with him. We ran through the hard falling snow, trying our best not to slip and fall. He never told me where we were going but something told me that it was going to be worth it. I trusted him, I really did. I trusted that he wouldn’t do anything to hurt me or anyone else.
We ran for a really long time, really far away from our hotel. I was starting to get a sickening feeling in my stomach. I didn’t feel comfortable being this far away from my family at this time of the day. Especially in New York City.
“Harry!” I called out to him, who was running a couple of feet ahead of me. “Stop!”
Harry stopped and spun himself around to face me. After running for about 10 minutes, he didn’t even look tired.
“What?” He shouted back to me.
I stopped and dropped my hands to my knees to try to catch my breath.
“Can you please tell me where were going before we continue?”
Harry looked away from me and began to sprint in the other direction.
“Hey!” I shouted angrily.
He stopped again and spun around, this time with a very impatient look on his face.
“Jocelyn, you need to trust me!”
I looked up at the sky that was still shedding snowflakes everywhere. It was really dark.
“What time is it?” I asked, changing the subject.
Harry shook his head impatiently and checked his watch.
“It’s ten to six!” He replied. “Now, come on!”
I bit my lip nervously and ran across the pavement, my footsteps echoing loudly as I tried my best to catch up with Harry. I really wasn’t comfortable with this but my heart was telling me that I should. I promised myself that I wouldn’t regret it later.
I finally caught up to Harry who had begun to walk towards and alley.
“Umm, I’m not going in there.” I said stubbornly.
Harry gave me an unsatisfied glare.
“Jocelyn,” He said, stretching out his hand towards me. “Trust me, please.”
I stared down at his hand, unsure of what to do. But what was he going to do? Harry wouldn’t hurt me, he loves me.
I took a deep breath of the cold, winter air and took hold of Harry’s hand, giving him all of my trust. I smirked slightly and I could see that made him really happy.
“Alright, let’s go.” He said pulling me into the alleyway.
We didn’t walk down the alley for long before Harry led me to a tall, cemented door. He twisted the knob and swung the door open then escorted both of us in. It was really dark and I could barely see the spiral staircase that we had begun to climb directly after the door had slammed shut behind us. I walked nervously up the staircase, still clenching onto Harry’s hand and we finally made it to a second door.
“You ready?” he asked excitedly.
I took another deep breath and nodded.
Harry swung the door open and my jaw dropped at the sight of what was in front of me. I was right, it was worth every second.
Superstar - Chapter 19
It was utterly beautiful. Harry and I were on a rooftop, I could see all of New York from that one spot. I looked over at the perfect view in amazement. The lights, the snow, it was truly fantastic.
“Harry-” I managed to spit out. I couldn’t think of anything else to say.
“That’s not all.” He said, placing his arm around my shoulder to guide me around the corner of the roof, where an even more pleasant surprise awaited me.
My heart was overwhelmed by the effort put into this place. Right in the middle of the rooftop, behind a tall brick wall, there was a beautiful, candle light dinner set up. And it wasn’t your cheap, plastic table and chairs fiasco. Right in front of my eyes was a nicely furnished, wooden table with a white lace table cloth draped over it. Underneath the table was a beautiful red velvet carpet that stretched just long enough to fit the two decadent chairs. Above us, was hundreds of stringed lights, glistening like the stars.
“Harry, you’ve got to be kidding me.” I said in disbelief. “When did you do this?”
Harry guided me over to the lovely dinner table and pulled out a chair for me. He was such a gentleman. I smiled cheerfully and took a seat.
“The day after I met you.” He said, walking over to his own seat.
“What?” I didn’t believe him. “No you didn’t.”
“But I did.” He said jokingly. “I promised myself after our encounter at Starbucks that I’d bring you somewhere really special for our first date.”
I chuckled.
“First date?” I said smirking.
“Yes.” He blushed. “I have goals.”
I smiled amusingly.
“Wait, I don’t understand. How did you know about this place?” I asked curiously, changing the subject. “It’s not exactly close to our hotel.”
Harry laughed and shook out his curls, making my heart jump.
“Well, I’ve been here before.” He paused, staring off into the distance.
“With my dad.” He finished.
“Oh.” I muttered.
“We drove here that time though. We didn’t have to run.” He laughed.
“So why couldn’t we have driven this time?” I asked obnoxiously.
“I wanted to show you right away!” He protested.
“So you couldn’t call a cab?”
“Hey, cabs cost money.”
We both laughed aloud. I brushed a strand of my brown hair out of my face and looked down at the dinner table. I noticed there were plates and utensils but there was no food.
“Haz?” I said, still chuckling a little.
“What?” he replied.
“Where’s our dinner?”
He looked down at the empty dinner plates and then smacked his forehead with the palm of his hand.
“I didn’t really think that through.” He said, sliding his hand down his face.
“I just thought that tonight would be the perfect time to bring you here, I didn’t even think about the eating part.”
I gazed into his eyes adoringly.
“It doesn’t matter.” I assured him. “This is perfect.”
“I should have remembered food.”
He really didn’t want to let that go. I could tell that he really wanted to make this perfect, which it already was, but he seemed to be a little bit disappointed.
“Harry, come on.” I said, sliding myself out of my chair.
I walked over to Harry’s seat and took his hand. I pulled him out of his chair and towards the magnificent view of New York. We both sat down and admired the beauty of the city.
I rested my head on his shoulder, still holding his hand and smiled.
“See, we don’t need food.” I teased.
When he didn’t respond, I looked up into his eyes sympathetically to see that he wasn’t smiling.
“Harry, what’s wrong?”
The wind was rustling through his hair, tangling snow between his perfect curls.
“Look, I know I’ve only known you for what, three days?” He began. “But I really like you.”
He turned his head to stare down at me.
“A lot.”
I didn’t understand.
“So what’s the problem?” I asked.
“We aren’t going to have many moments like this before vacation is over.”
Why did he keep reminding me about that?
“Exactly, Haz. So let’s try to work with what we’ve got. Food or no food.”
He smiled. I was relieved to see he had lightened up.
“I’m sorry, I just wanted everything to be perfect.” He finished.
I shook my head then placed my cold hands on his neck, tangling my fingers through his curls.
“It already is.” I said before pressing my lips to his.
Superstar - Chapter 20
I never realised how amazing sitting in silence could be. It was probably because I was with such an amazing person. How did I get so lucky, to meet someone like Harry? I spun my head to face him but he didn’t notice, he was staring wide-eyed at the city, wind blowing through his curls.
“Harry?” I finally muttered. He turned his head to look at me and smiled.
“Yes, love?” He whispered. I rested my head back on his shoulder and snuggled into his arm.
“Do we have to run all the way back to the hotel after this?” I asked.
Harry laughed.
“No, we don’t have to.” I was relieved. I hated running with a passion. “We can stay here.”
My eyes grew with surprise.
“All night? Are you nuts? We’ll freeze to death!” I said, playfully punching his shoulder.
He shook his head in disagreement.
“No, I brought blankets!” He said, gesturing at a small case behind us, (Which probably had the blankets in it)
I raised my eyebrows. “You expected me to sleep with you on our first date?” I spat.
He shrugged. “You never know!”
I considered this for a while. Sleeping here would be really nice (and romantic which I’m a sucker for), but what was my mom going to say? She would never let me sleep over-night with someone I had just met. Especially not on a roof. And I wasn’t going to lie to her, so that wasn’t an option.
“I don’t know, Haz. My mom-” I was interupted by the loud ringing coming from my purse. I untangled my arm from Harry’s and reached into my purse, to see who was calling me.
“Shoot, It’s my mom.” I said to Harry before answering my phone.
“Hello?” I said, trying to sound as calm as I could. I was expecting a”Where are you?!”or a”Why aren’t you back yet?!”but instead, my mom spoke calmly:
“Hi, sweetie! How are you?”
I laughed a little. I could tell Harry was listening in on our conversation.
“I’m good.” I said, smiling.
“I just wanted to know when you’d be home?” I was still confused as to why my mom was in such a good mood. She was never this calm about anything.
“Umm.” I said before covering the phone with my hand and spinning to face Harry.
“What do I say?” I whispered.
Harry lent out his hand to me and I handed him my phone.
“Hello, Mrs. It’s Harry.” He said, charmingly.
I could hear my mom on the other side of the phone.
“Hello, Harry!” She said cheerfully. “How are you?”
“I’m great! Thanks for asking!” He exclaimed. He spoke calmly when he continued. “You see, Jocelyn and I bumped into one of my old friends and she’d like to have us over for dinner.”
Harry was such a good liar, I would have never come up with that.
“Can Jocelyn come?” He asked sincerely.
I couldn’t quite hear what my mom had said after that, I zoned out and began to think. I blocked out all of the sounds around me and remembered that girl, Claire. The fact that Harry chose me over her still astounds me. She was so beautiful and well, I’m just me. I have average hair, average eyes, an average smile. She was absolutely perfect.
“Alright, bye Mrs H. Have a nice evening!” Harry said before hanging up the phone and handing it back to me.
“Well, what did she say?” I said, eagerly awaiting his answer.
“Well, I asked if you could stay the night with me there and carefully explained that we will be in separate rooms but she said it didn’t feel right for you to sleep at a strangers house.” He explained.
I was a little bit relieved, but at the same time disappointed. I really wasn’t ready to sleep with Harry. We’ve only known each other 3 days. And, I didn’t feel comfortable lying to my mom.
My thoughts were interrupted by Harry’s hands waving in front of my face.
“Hello? Are you listening?” He asked, wide-eyed. “She said you could stay until 10 at the latest. So we have 3 and a half hours do do whatever we want!”
I smiled at his joy. He was so perfect, it was hard to believe he was a real person.
“What do you want to do?” I asked him.
“No, no, no.” He answered almost instantly. “What do you want to do?”
I hesitated for a moment and came to a decision.
“Times Square.” I said. “I want to go shopping in Times Square.”
I didn’t want to seem pushy but, shopping in Times Square was on my bucket list. Might as well give it a shot.
“Yeah, that sounds fun!” Harry shouted excitedly. He grabbed my hand and we raced out onto the stairwell and made our way back down to the dark, creepy alley. I waited patiently while Harry signaled a taxi. We waited for a little while in the cold. When the cab finally arrived, we jumped into the back seat and strapped our seatbelts on.
“Wait, so we can’t take a taxi to the rooftop but we can take a taxi to Times Square?” I said obnoxiously.
“Times Square” Harry said to the taxi driver, ignoring me.
I shook my head and rolled my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest. I felt Harry nuzzle his head into my neck.
“Times Square is a lot farther.” He said innocently.
-
“What about this one?” I asked, holding up a silky pink dress up in front of my body.
Harry thought for a moment and then shook his head disapprovingly.
“Okay.” I said, placing the dress back on it’s hanger and pulling out a long, black sequinned dress instead. “How about this one?”
Harry made a barfing gesture and then walked away. I stood there, shaking my head and continued to look for a dress. Harry took me dress shopping because apparently, he was taking me somewhere “special” on New Years Eve. But of course, he won’t tell me where.
“It’s a surprise.” he said.
Figures, he’s always acting mysterious like that. I stopped looking for a moment and went to find where Harry had gone. I found him in the far corner of the store holding up a short, skimpy red dress.
“Umm, I’m not wearing that.” I said disgusted.
“Oh I know, this is for me.” Harry joked. “It makes my legs look hot.”
He began to pose with the very revealing dress and I couldn’t help but burst of laughter.
“Put that away!” I shouted through my giggles, snatching the dress from him and putting it back on it’s hanger.
I continued looking, without any luck. There really wasn’t anything in this store that caught my eye. I wasn’t really the type of girl to wear dresses. I was more of a Jeans and Tee Shirt kind of girl. We had already been here for almost an hour and I still hadn’t chosen a dress that I really liked.
I looked around and noticed Harry had taken off again. I rolled my eyes and went looking for him. It took me a while but I found him eventually, standing near the change-rooms. I noticed he was holding the most beautiful dress I had ever seen. I raced over to him and snatched the dress from his hands, startling him.
I didn’t say a word, I just admired the dress’ every detail. Harry noticed that I really seemed to like it and he smiled.
“Go try it on.” He said.
I looked up at him and he just nodded. I ran to the change-room and slipped it on quickly before admiring myself in the mirror. I had truly, never felt prettier. It was a long, silver dress. It had a sweetheart neckline that wasn’t too revealing and it flowed down to my ankles, flaring out at the bottom.
I walked out of the change-room slowly, approaching Harry from behind and tapped on his shoulder. He spun around, smirking and his jaw dropped when he saw me. I just smiled and twirled around for him.
“You like it?” I asked.
“We’re buying you this dress. No, wait. I’m buying you this dress.” He corrected himself.
I smiled, my cheeks flushing red and I ran back into the change-rooms to change back into my regular clothes.
Wherever Harry was going to take me, I couldn’t wait.
Superstar - Chapter 21
My eyes opened slowly and I was blinded by the light in my bedroom. I blinked repetitively and looked around for my family members. I pulled myself into a sitting position and scratched my head. No sign of anyone but, I could hear them watching TV in the other room. I let out a long, anticipated yawn then plopped back down into my sheets, smiling. Last night was unarguably the best night of my life.
After me and Harry had bought the dress, we took a promenade, walking into every single store we passed. That’s all we did until about 9:30. By then, Harry had decided it was a good idea to go back to the hotel. My tired cheeks flushed red, remembering the night.
***
“Dare me?” Harry asked, pointing towards Santa Claus in the middle of Times Square.
“Dare you to what? Go take a picture with Santa?”
Harry nodded and smiled.
“Okay, but I want a picture too” I joked. I was being sarcastic but Harry grabbed me by the waist and carried me over to the line up to meet Santa. I laughed, trying to act serious while begging him to put me down but he refused.
We got funny looks from everyone waiting in line behind all of the children. I felt incredibly stupid but, at least I felt stupid with someone else.
When we got up to the front of the line, we skipped up the stairs and sat on Santa’s lap. Even Santa gave us a funny look.
“Aren’t you two a little bit old for this?” He asked, smiling.
Me and Harry looked at each other then we both shook our heads.
“I don’t think so.” Harry said. We both laughed and then smiled for a picture.
-
“I think it looks great!” Harry said, holding up the picture we had just purchased. “I’m going to hang it up on my wall.”
***
I laughed to myself and turned to look at the picture of us with Santa. Harry had let me keep it because he felt rude, or something like that anyway. I learned that night that Hary is one to overthink things, Just like me. If this relashionship did work out in the future, that would definetly be one of our issues.
I decided to pick up the phone and wish him a merry Chrismas Eve. We had agreed that the dress he bought me was my christmas gift but, I still hadn’t gotten one for him. So, I was calling to ask if he’d like to come pick out a gift for himself with me.
I waited patiently as the phone rang, staring at the clock. 11:13am. I slept in really late that day. probably because I was up all night thinking about Harry.
“Hello?” I heard Harry’s charming voice on the other end of the phone.
“Merry Christmas Eve!” I shouted cheerfully.
This may sound odd but, I could feel him smiling through the phone.
“Merry Christmas Eve to you too, love.” I loved the way he called me love. It made me feel all gouey inside.
I rolled over onto my side before continuing with our conversation.
“I was just wondering if you were busy later on.” I said, twisting my fingers in the sheets.
“Oh, umm. Actually-” He coughed roughly before answering. “I’m busy today.”
“Oh,” I said, dissapointed. “That’s okay, then. What are you doing?”
“Look, Jocelyn I have to go.” He said hesitantly. Almost like he was avoiding the conversation.
“Oh, okay. Bye.” I murmered.
He didn’t say anything else before hanging up and leaving me on the other line.
Superstar - Chapter 22
I didn’t understand. Harry really didn’t sound like himself. I didn’t want to be too quick to judge so I just ignored it.
Maybe he got into a fight with his parents or something like that. At that point, I just really hoped he was okay, I didn’t think much as to what he was doing that day.
My mom walked into my bedroom, interrupting my thoughts, and smiled.
“Well, good morning sleepyhead!” She exclaimed, her hands on her hips.
I smirked, my eyes still feeling heavy.
“Good morning, mom.” I said, stretching out my arms.
My mom walked over to me and sat on my bed. She put her hands on my head and began to play with my hair.
“So,” She said, with a shy smile. “What happened last night with Harry?”
I almost choked on my breath.
“Umm, we just hung out, went shopping. Nothing really.” I tried to sound as calm and cool as possible. My mom was obviously onto me.
“Really? What did you buy?” She asked. I could tell in the way she spoke that she already knew.
“I bought a dress.” I murmured.
“Oh yeah, I saw that.” She said, still twisting at my hair. “What did you buy it for?”
“What’s with all the questions?” I asked, annoyed. I was trying to avoid the conversation. I really didn’t feel comfortable talking about boys with my mom.
“Sorry, I was just trying to initiate conversation.” She said, insulted. She got up off of my bed and proceeded to walk back into her bedroom.
She grabbed hold of the doorknob but turned once more to look at me and smiled.
“You like him, don’t you?” She said in a quieter, more calm tone.
I tried not to make eye contact with her, pretend I didn’t hear her. What’s it to her anyways? Who cares if I like him or if I don’t. It was none of her business.
When I didn’t respond, my mom twisted the doorknob and walked back into her room. As soon as the door shut, I picked up my phone to see a new text message from Harry.
* Joss, I’m sorry I hung up on you like that.
I stared at the text, not knowing how to reply.
* It’s okay, Haz :)
I waited for a while for him to respond. When he didn’t, I decided to ask him the only question on my mind.
* Why did you though?
It took him a while to text back and I was getting impatient.
* I had to go, he said.
* Go where?
He didn’t respond after that. I was starting to really wonder what he was up too. I wasn’t going to bother him about it again but, it really frustrated me that he wouldn’t tell me.
-
“Dad, I’ll just be over here.” I said, gesturing towards the men’s section of the store we were in. I don’t remember what it was called, but I do remember that I had never heard of it before.
I began to browse through some nice blazers and shirts. Even if Harry was acting weird, it was still Christmas tomorrow and I still needed to buy him a gift.
The dress Harry bought me was $65.00 which I thought was a little much but Harry kept implying that he was rich. So now, I have to buy him something worth $65.00.
I spotted a very stylish, grey blazer and slacks to go with it. I could definitely picture Harry wearing it but, I wanted to get him something a little different than what he usually wore.
I walked over to the next section of silk shirts and ties. I stared at the rack for a while and decided that Harry wouldn’t like anything of that style. I sighed, frustrated and continued to search.
After a couple of minutes I came across a dark red, long sleeved dress shirt and a very elegant, black bow tie. I loved it immediately.
The shirt was $58.00 and the bow tie was $12.00. So I was about to spend seventy dollars on Harry. He was definitely worth it. I only had $120.00 in spending money and after that purchase I would have about $30.00 left.
I shrugged and walked over to the counter, making sure my mom didn’t see me. I quickly purchased the outfit and shoved it into a grey plastic bag. If my mom or dad knew I was spending this much money on a boy I just met, I would be disowned.
After I had given the money to the cashier and took the gift receipt, I ran over to the front doors of the store to see my parents and my brother waiting for me.
“There you are! Let’s go!” My brother shouted. He really wasn’t the shopping type.
As soon as we walked out of the store, I couldn’t help but notice there was a party going on. It was 7:30pm on Christmas Eve so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see the streets filled with people. I watched all of the joyful people dancing and laughing. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It made me wish I was there with Harry.
Just then, I spotted a familiar face. Claire.
I had to admit, I was very jealous of her but she seemed like a nice girl, all in all. Like everyone else, she was having a great time.
I was relieved to see that she was dancing with a boy. That meant she would stay away from Harry. I know, selfish but I wasn’t going to let her take him from me.
I began to inspect the tall, dark haired boy to see that it was the one boy I didn’t want her to be dancing with. My relief turned into betrayal and my heart sank in my chest.
Claire was with Harry.
Superstar - Chapter 23
I took a step back and let the heartbreak set in. I felt like every single piece of me had shattered into a million pieces. I felt a knot tighten in my stomach as I watched Harry dance with Claire; his hands on her waist, her arms locked around his neck.
I tried to think of other possibilities. Maybe they were just really close friends. Maybe they could dance with each other and it wouldn’t mean anything to either of them. I thought wrong.
I watched Claire smile and press her lips up to his. He kissed her.
All of my air was knocked out and I felt a lone tear fall down my cheek. I spun around and ran as fast as I could in the other direction, trying to forget everything I just saw.
Harry’s P.O.V.
I pulled myself out of Claire’s embrace in shock.
“Claire!” I shouted in disbelief. I didn’t expect her to lunge at me like that.
“What?” She said carelessly. Like it didn’t even matter that she just kissed me.
“Do you realize what you’ve done?” I shouted angrily. “You know I lied to Jocelyn to come and be with you today!”
“What does that have to do with-“
“I’m with Jocelyn!” I interupted her. “Not you!”
“Enough about Jocelyn! Jocelyn this, Jocelyn that.” She spat, a devilish look in her eyes. “What about us?”
She grabbed onto my jacket and pulled me closer to her, our bodies touching. I immediately pulled away.
“What do you mean ‘us’ ? I haven’t seen you in over six years, Claire!”
I saw her eyes fill with sadness and I immediately changed the tone of my voice.
“We were eleven when we kissed, we were eleven when I was in love with you.” I whispered sympathetically. “But then you just left me. And you didn’t even tell me where you went.”
I followed her over to the curb of the sidewalk and we both sat down. We sat in silence for a while before Claire spoke up.
“You weren’t home.” She murmured. I could tell by the way she spoke that she was crying but she wouldn’t make eye contact. “I went to your house and you weren’t home.”
“What?” I said. I didn’t understand.
“My dad came home the night before and said that he had sold my house. I didn’t even know that we were selling our house in the first place. He said that we were going to go live with my uncle for a while until we bought a new house in New York. But when my dad got home, it was past 10 and I knew you were sleeping. He told me we had to pack right then because we were leaving in the morning.”
She looked me straight in the eyes before she continued.
“I ran over to your house in the morning. I remember crying at your doorstep when you didn’t answer your door. I refused to leave until I said goodbye to you. But my dad forced me into the car.” Her eyes filled with salt water and tears began to stream down her face.
“I cried the whole way home. I just wanted to be with you.” She said, holding my cheek with her delicate hands. “I never got over you.”
I watched her smile through her tears and I couldn’t help but hug her as tight as I possibly could. All of the questions I had been asking myself for the past 6 years were answered.
“I’ve missed you, Claire.” I said, smiling. I couldn’t stand seeing Claire cry. Even when we were young, I hated when she was sad. I would always try my best to keep her happy. But not this time. “But, I really like Jocelyn.”
I saw her happy eyes droop back into sadness.
“Oh, okay.” She sighed, I could hear the heartbreak in her voice.
She stood up from the curb slowly. I stood up as well, helping her with her things. She wiped away her tears, smiling fakely and outstrecthed her hand. I took it in mine and shook it breifly.
“It was nice hanging out with you today, Harry.” She said, her voice still shaky.
It broke my heart to see her walk away like that. She was my best friend.
“By the way-” She let go of my hand and reached into her purse. “I’m extremely proud of you.”
That was the last thing she said to me before walking farther and farther away from me, without looking back. And I felt something that I really shouldn’t have been feeling.
I still loved her.
Superstar - Chapter 24
Still Harry’s P.O.V.
I layed awake in my bed on Christmas morning, just staring at the ceiling, trying to figure everything out. Last night had my thoughts all jumbled up inside my head. I couldn’t still be in love with Claire, I loved Jocelyn. And It was true, I loved her more than I’d ever loved any other girl. But Claire still made me weak with her smile.
I made myself sit up and scratched the back of my messy curls.
What if she knew? I thought to myself. What if she saw everything.
It was a good thing she didn’t. I guess, it didn’t really matter now because I had already sorted things out with Claire. It wasn’t cheating if it only happened once, was it?
I shook my head to clear my thoughts and grabbed my phone from the side table. I clicked on Jocelyn’s name and sent her a text that read:
***
Merry Christmas, love <3
***
I waited for a while but she didn’t text back. It racked my head to not talk to her. I missed the sound of her voice.
I heard my mum walk into my room so I looked up from my phone and smiled.
“Merry Christmas, Darling!” She said before kissing my forehead.
“Merry Christmas, Mum.” I replied.
“Remember, you have a red carpet to go to tonight.” She said and she walked over to the dresser and pulled out an outfit for me to wear.
“Yes, I know. And, I can pick out my own clothes, you know.” I groaned.
She smiled.
“Well, I would assume you’re a little bit out of it today. You were out late last night.”
She was right, I had gotten home at around midnight the night before. I wanted to stay until the “Countdown to Christmas” event that they do every Christmas Eve in Times Square.
“Where’s Robin?” I asked, changing the subject.
“He just went down to the lobby for a little while, he’ll be back.” My mum said.
I didn’t respond. Intead I just looked back down at my phone. Still no text from Joss. I dropped my phone onto my lap and sighed.
“Honey, why don’t you go over to Jocelyn’s room and wish her a Merry Christmas. I’m sure she’s up.” My mum suggested.
I bit my lip, wondering what I would say to her if she asked what I had been up to yesterday. I could tell her that I was just spending time with my family for the day. That would work.
I hopped out of bed and put on the outfit my mum had layed out for me and raced over to Jocelyn’s room without bothering to fix my hair or anything else that was out of place at that moment. I stood still, staring at her door then lifted up my hand and lightly pounded on the wood.
Jocelyn’s P.O.V.
I suddenly heard a knock at the door. Who could be knocking? My family was in the other room and we weren’t expecting the maid yet. I quickly wiped the tears away from my face before walking over to the door. I didn’t want whoever was there to know I had been crying.
“I’ll get it!” I shouted. I got up on my tippy toes and looked through the peep-hole in the wooden door. My heart shot up into my throat. It was Harry.
I planted my feet flat on the ground and began to breath heavily.
Should I answer it? What will I say? Should I tell him I saw him last night? No, that would be stupid. What the heck do I do? Just answer the door, Jocelyn!
I listened to the voice in my head and swung the door open. I stared at Harry, a slight frown on my face. I turned my attention down to the ground awkwardly.
“Hey.” I managed to choke out.
“Merry Christmas, Joss!” He exclaimed, his arms outstretched to hug me.
I ignored his request and he dropped his arms, dissapointed.
“What’s wrong?” He asked obliviously. How could he not know what was wrong? What else could be wrong?
I decided to ignore it for now.
“I bought you something.” I said quietly, changing the subject.
He smiled, relieved. “Did you, now?”
I smirked fakely and led him into my hotel room. I walked over to the side table where I had left the gift I had bought him and picked it up. I hadn’t had the time to wrap it so I just handed it to him in the box they had given me at the store counter.
“Wow, thanks Joss!” He smiled. “Can I open it?”
I shrugged, still frowning.
“If you want too.” I mumbled.
Harry’s smiled dissapeared and he placed the gift box back on the ground.
“What’s wrong, Joss? Why are you so-” He stopped. The look on his face showed me that he knew what was wrong. I decided to let him know he was right.
“I saw you.” I said coldly. “I saw you kiss her.”
Harry’s eyes began to fill with tears.
“Jocelyn, you don’t understand.” He murmured.
“Do you still love her?” I said, tears welling up in my own eyes. I let one fall when he didn’t answer me.
“Jocelyn, let me explain.” He said.
I waited for him to start talking but he just stood there silent. I realized I really didn’t want to hear what he had to say.
“Get out.” I hissed, not giving him eye contact.
“Jocelyn, please.” He begged.
I turned my head to face him. “Out.” I spat through my clenched teeth.
He didn’t move. He just stood there breathing heavily through his tears. I had my back facing him, my arms crossed over my chest until I heard him begin to walk out of my room.
“Take your gift, too.” I added. “I’m not wasting it.”
He didn’t say a word. I heard the rusling of the paper bag wrapped around the gift box lift of the ground and he was gone when I turned back around.
Superstar - Chapter 25
Jocelyn’s P.O.V.
I quickly shut the door and slid my back down the wood until I was sitting on the beige carpet of my hotel room. I dropped my head into my hands and began to cry. For once, I really thought a guy liked me but it was too good to be true. I should have listened to the voice in the back of my head, telling me he was too good for me. I shouldn’t have been so naive.
But at the same time, I really thought Harry was different. This was the one thing I didn’t expect from him. I didn’t think he would do that to me. At first I wasn’t sure but up until last night I was almost positive that he really liked me. Shows how stupid I am.
I forced myself to stop crying because I knew my parents would hear me and wonder what was wrong.
I just couldn’t believe it. How could he do something like this to me?
I pulled myself up off the floor and walked over to the washroom. I took one look in the mirror and stared at my reflection in disgust. My mascara had smudged all down my cheeks and around my eyes. I took some of my facial cleanser out of my make-up bag and cleaned myself off. I then took one more look in the mirror, stonefaced. I didn’t feel very pretty right then. Instead I felt like a worthless being.
I applied a clean coat of mascara and walked back out into my hotel room.
What now? I thought.
I don’t know why I did but I left. I ran out of my hotel room and into the elevator. I pressed the Lobby button and waited patiently for the elevator doors to open once again. When they did, I stepped out into the front lobby and was pleased to see a very cheerful Christmas party going on. There were people drinking, talking, laughing and dancing to Christmas music. It cheered me up to be in a happy atmosphere. And without Harry.
I went into the main restaurant at the hotel and grabbed some breakfast from the buffet. It was 11:00am and I still hadn’t eaten anything. Once I picked up some Cheerios and a yogurt, I went out into the seating area to find a table. I found an empty seat and began to eat quietly. No thoughts running through my head. I just sat in peace, no thinking about Harry, no thinking about anything. Just a moment to myself.
“Hello, may I sit with you?” a voice spoke from behind me. I turned my head to see a tall lady with long black hair and piercing blue eyes. She looked very familiar.
“Yes, of course. I was done anyways.” I replied.
I began to gather my things when the lady put her hand on my shoulder to stop me.
“Pardon me, but are you Jocelyn?” The lady asked and I realized she was Harry’s mom. Of course, who else?
“Umm, yeah.” I said, flashing a fake smile. “How are you?”
She looked down at her table and sighed. “I’m not doing to great. Harry is in a bit of a bad mood. I don’t know what’s gotten into him.”
I decided to sit back down and listen to what she had to say.
“Really? What happened?” I asked curiously.
“Well, he came back into our room crying. I asked him what was wrong but he ignored me. He’s been in his bed ever since.” She said, sounding worried. “Do you know what happened?”
I didn’t say anything back. I panicked, thinking that maybe she thought this was all my fault. And maybe it was.
“I’m not sure, no.” I lied.
Anne shrugged and smiled. “It’s okay, he’s probably just nervous about tonight.”
“What’s tonight?” I asked suspiciously.
“Oh, Harry didn’t tell you? I thought he would have chosen you as his guest.” She said, surprised.
I stared at her in confusion.
“He has a red carpet to go to tonight and he was supposed to bring a guest.” She added.
Wait, what? He never told me anything about a red carpet. He told me he was here on vacation! Was he lying to me? Wait a second…
My heart crumpled even more than I thought was possible.
If he didn’t ask me, then who did he ask?
Superstar - Chapter 26
Harry’s P.O.V.
Stop it Harry. I told myself. Pull yourself together.
I dragged myself into a sitting position and rubbed my eyes repetitively. I stared in shock at the clock. It was already 2:00pm.
How long had I been crying?
I hopped out of bed and accidentally stepped on the box that Jocelyn had given me. I had never thought to open it. I stared down at it then bent down to pick it up. I took off the plastic that was wrapped around it and carefully opened the crumpled box. I loved it.
A long sleeved red top and a black bow tie. The quality was unbelievable. It must have costed a fortune! I could wear it to the red carpet but, how could I wear it without hating myself? I felt my stomach churn in guilt. It didn’t feel right to accept this gift. Not even if Jocelyn really did want me to have it, I didn’t deserve it. At the red carpet- Suddenly, My head snapped up in realization.
The red carpet. I need to bring a guest! I thought. Shoot!
I dropped the lovely gift onto my bed and raced over to the bedside table to grab my phone. I was about to dial Jocelyn’s number when I remembered that I couldn’t. She wouldn’t come with me. Not even if I dropped on my knees and begged. So instead, I called Claire.
“Hello?” Claire’s voice sung when she answered the phone.
“Hey, Claire.” I said. “Merry Christmas!”
“Harry!” she exclaimed with joy. “Merry Christmas to you too!”
At least Claire didn’t hate my guts. I was relieved to still have her as a friend.
“Are you busy later tonight?” I asked hopefully.
“Umm, no. why?”
I smiled. Thank god she was free.
“I have a red carpet to go to tonight and I was wondering if you’d like to come with me?”
Claire didn’t respond right away. Instead, she sounded a bit confused.
“What about Jocelyn?”
My heart stung at the sound of her name.
“She’s ugh, busy umm, tonight.” I stuttered.
“Oh, okay. In that case, I would be happy to go to the red carpet with you tonight!” She exclaimed.
I smiled. I was really lucky that she had forgiven me about last night. Even if it really wasn’t my fault. Was it?
“Perfect. I’ll text you the details a little bit later.” I assured her. “In the meantime, find something nice to wear.”
I heard Claire laugh and I smiled.
“Alright, talk to you later, Haz.”
Haz. She still called me Haz. I liked that.
“Bye, Clay-Doh.” I replied, laughing at the nickname I gave her a while back. She always hated it.
I hung up the phone and placed it back down on the bedside table. Jocelyn’s face invading my thoughts.
Yes, I did feel horrible but at this point, I had no choice.
Superstar - Chapter 27
Jocelyn’s P.O.V.
I was sitting on my very comfortable bed once again, scrolling through my twitter. There had been rumours about me and Harry but I decided to ignore them. It would all fade away soon anyways. I promised myself I wouldn’t go back to him. I couldn’t.
I checked the clock. 7:45pm. Perfect.
I had gotten more details from Harry’s mom about the event. It was going to be on channel 34 at 8:00pm. Apparently, it was a premiere for a new Christmas movie called “The 12 dates of Christmas”.
A movie premiere on Christmas day seemed a little bit strange to me. I began to wonder how many celebrities were there that I would never get to meet. It still angered me a little to think that Harry might have taken Claire with him. I know I yelled at him, I know I’m mad at him but it still made my stomach churn to imagine them on the carpet together.
I patiently waited until 8:00pm and switched on my TV. There were a couple of very obnoxious commercials before the actual event started which enerved me even more. Then some girl, who seemed to be the hostess, came up to the camera and began to speak.
“Hello! Welcome to the 12 Dates of Christmas movie premiere!” She shouted enthusiatically. Then some odd music began to play before she continued. “We have so many stars here today and we are going to interview each and every one for your enjoyment!”
I furrowed my eyebrows. She was annoying.
“Alright, come with me!” She said gesturing towards the beautifully decorated carpet.
All I could see was flashing cameras and a couple of stars I didn’t recognize. The hostess began talking to an unfamiliar teenager about his upcoming movie. Then she went on to an older woman with long brown hair and asked her about her latest CD. I felt kind of stupid, not knowing who any of these people were. Finally I spotted Harry on the carpet. I couldn’t see who he was with because the hostess had began talking again she was blocking whoever his guest was.
“Alright, say hello to teen hearthrob, Harry Styles!” She said, walking towards him. He made eye contact with her and gave her a quick hug. He was wearing the outfit I had bought him for Christmas. My heart stung in my chest. I didn’t expect him to wear that.
“Hello, how are you?” He asked, his hands stuffed into his pockets. Then, out of the corner of the screen, I saw that his guest was indeed, Claire.
“I’m great! Thanks for asking.” This girl was really tacking my patience with her high pitched, rambling voice. “So Harry, who do we have with you today?”
Harry pulled Claire a little bit closer to him before introducing her. “This is my good friend, Claire.”
Claire smiled and politely shook the hostess’ hand. I had to admit, she looked stunning.
“Nice to meet you, honey.”
Harry smiled awkwardly. I could tell he wasn’t happy.
“Where are the other boys?” She asked.
“Umm, they’re back in England. They couldn’t make it this time.”
“Oh man, that’s too bad. Can we expect anything new from you boys soon?”
“Well, umm. Right now, we are just finishing up our Up All Night tour and then I guess, we will uhh, wait and see if-” Harry’s words were all jumbled and he wasn’t making much sense. He bit his lip and looked down at the ground. Claire put her arm on his shoulder to comfort him.
“Are you okay, Haz?” She whispered. He threw his head back up and nodded.
“Just a little tired. Thanks for the interview, Shauna.” He said, going in for a hug. The hostess didn’t seem to pleased.
“Oh, okay then.” She murmered before Harry and Claire walked away. “We’ll be right back after the break!”
I switched the TV off after that. There was nothing else I wanted to see.
Suddenly, I was startled by my loud ringtone. I reached over to my bedside table and grabbed my phone. It was Harry. Without hesitating, I answered it. I was still mad but, I did miss his voice.
“Hello?” I said, pretending to not know who it was. Instead of a reply, I heard sobbing. It sent tortured chills down my spine. “Harry? What’s going on?”
He didn’t reply for a while so I just waited patiently.
“Jocelyn, don’t hang up.” He finally spoke.
“I wasn’t going to. Just tell me what’s wrong.” I said, emotionless.
“You need to listen to me, I didn’t kiss Claire.”
“Oh, I saw you so don’t even play that card.” I interupted.
“Listen to me.” He proclaimed. I stopped talking and he continued.
“She kissed me.” He explained. “I promise you I pushed her away. Then I talked to her about how I was with you and that we can’t kiss.”
Harry was still making no sense. Something must have really messed him up. I didn’t know if he was telling the truth or lying.
“Umm, where are you?” I asked, changing the subject.
He hesitated. He still didn’t tell me about the red carpet so I guess he assumed that I didn’t know.
“I’m uhh, I’m-” He stuttered. I heard him sigh. “I’m at a red carpet thing, with Claire.”
I appreciated his honesty. But I really didn’t know what to say to him anymore. I didn’t even know why he called me in the first place. I was a bit confused.
“Yeah, you know, I have to g-“
“I wish I was here with you.” He interupted.
He still cared. Maybe he was telling me the truth. I needed to find out for sure.
“Okay, look. After the premiere, go down to the lounge area on the second floor and we can talk there.” I suggested, still not showing any of my emotion.
“Okay.” He sounded happy.
“Alright, bye.” I said hanging up the phone.
I rubbed my temples with the tips of my fingers. I didn’t know what I was going to say to him but I needed to straighten things out.
Superstar - Chapter 28
I sat quietly in lounge waiting for Harry to make an appearance. I had been waiting there for about half an hour for him and still no Harry. I spun around in my chair to glance at the clock on the wall. 10:27. Where was he?
I was really nervous to hear what he had to say about him and Claire. What if he still liked her? That would destroy me.
I waited impatiently for another 10 minutes then decided he was a no-show. Furiously, I got up to leave but I felt someone grab my shoulder. Finally.
“Sorry I’m late, Joss.” He said, biting his lip.
I could see it in his eyes that he knew I was aggitated.
“Whatever, just sit.” I spat.
Harry awkwardly walked over to one of the red loveseats and sat down. I did the same in the loveseat across from him. I had no idea what to say to him. You’d think I would use the extra time to think but nope, I had nothing. We just sat in awkward silence.
“Joss?” Harry murmured. “Did you want to ask me something?”
I felt a lump form in my throat.
Just say what’s on your mind.
“Harry, when I first started hanging out with you, I really thought you liked me.” I began.
“I do like you.” He interupted. “From the second I saw you, I liked you.”
I crossed my arms over my chest. I didn’t want this conversation to get long and rambly. So I got straight to the point.
“Then why did you kiss her?”
“I didn’t!” Harry protested. “I didn’t kiss Claire! Would you just listen to me for once!”
His voice became stern. I was too afraid to say anything else so I let him continue.
“Claire called me on Christmas Eve and asked me if I wanted to hang out with her and catch up a little. You and I hadn’t made any plans so I said yes.” He explained. “Then you called me and I didn’t want to make you think I was choosing her over you so i tried to avoid telling you what I was doing.”
He paused to make sure I was listening. I gave him a nod to tell him I understood.
“Basically we just hung out together for the most part of the day and then at night, she wanted to go to the Countdown to Christmas thing so I took her to make her happy. And we were just dancing and having fun and then she kissed me. I didn’t see it coming, I had no idea why she did it but she did.”
I had my head down, staring at the brown carpet below me. I didn’t know if I really believed him yet. He sounded like he was telling the truth but there was still one question on my mind.
“Do you love her?” I asked, still not making eye contact although, I felt his eyes on me.
“What?” He asked obnoxiously.
I snapped my head up to face him. “Do you love her, Harry?”
He hesitated. It made me feel unwanted.
“I’m not going to say no because that would be lying. But I don’t love her like I love you, Jocelyn.”
I saw Harry stand up and walk over to me, then he took a seat right next to me. Suddenly, the room no longer echoed with hatred. Instead, it filled with warmth. He titled my chin up to face him and gazed directly into my eyes.
“I mean Claire, she’s a good friend but, I don’t think there’s anybody who knows me like you. Even if we’ve only known each other so long, you’re the only one who truly accepts me for who I am.”
He took my hand in his and smiled. I felt an electric shock run through my body. “I just want a chance with you and well, I haven’t properly asked you yet.”
My heart stopped. He was going to ask me.
“Jocelyn, if you can forgive me, I would like you to be my girlfriend.”
I smiled and hugged him tightly, gripping on the curls at the nape of his neck. He had done it. He had sucked me right back into his arms. “Yes, of course.”
He was officially mine. His heart belonged to me. Harry Styles belonged to me.
Superstar - Chapter 29
*2 DAYS LATER - 27th OF DECEMBER.*
“Okay, your turn.” I said.
Harry and I were sitting on the long, black leather couch in his hotel room playing truth or dare. He had just dared me to scream as loud as I could out the window for 30 seconds.
Harry shifted uncomfortably and gave me a terrified glare. “I’m kind of scared.”
I laughed and threw a pillow at him playfully. “Truth or Dare?”
Harry smiled and sat up straight to face me. His beautiful green eyes reflected happiness into mine.
“Truth, no dare. No wait! Truth.” He said. “No!-“
“Okay! Just pick one already!” I shouted, hitting him again with the same pillow.
He deflected the hit with his hand, then gave me a playful death glare.
“You dare rush the master?!” He shouted.
I let out a light giggle.
“No, I just think that the ‘master’ should make up his god forsaken mind before I wack him again.” I said picking the pillow back up and threatening to hit him with it.
Harry grabbed the pillow from my hand and threw it onto the floor. He climbed on top of me and began to tickle me forcefully.
“No, Harry! Stop! Help! Help me!” I shreaked through my giggles.
“No one can hear you Jocelyn!” Harry shouted, struggling to keep a tight hold on me as I squirmed and kicked. “You have made a fatal mistake.”
Suddenly, I rolled off of the couch and landed back to the floor.
“Oucchh.” I whined through my chuckled breath. I looked up to see Harry laughing and holding his stomach.
My face switched from pain to anger and I jumped up from the floor and pounced on Harry. He shook in surprise, not expecting it.
“Ahh!” He yelped. I tried to tickle him back but he had a firm grip on my wrists.
“Haha!” He proclaimed. “Can’t get me now, can you! You’re just a-“
He stopped and his smile dropped from his face. I followed his eyes to my wrist which had my old scars from years ago. I bit my lip awkwardly, waiting for Harry to speak up.
“Jocelyn, please tell me these aren’t what I think they are.” He said, worried.
I pulled my arm out of his grip and inspected the old scars for myself. “I would but, I don’t want to lie to you.”
Harry pulled himself closer to me and took my hand in his again, still staring at my scars. “But, why?”
I slowly swallowed the lump in my throat. I didn’t know what to say to him, but I had to say something. I took a deep breath and began to speak.
“I’m not the most popular girl at my school. I never was. Like, I used to be really fat and everyone would make fun of me.” I looked up at him and saw the fear in his eyes. The last thing I wanted was for him to be worried about me.
“But, that was a long time ago. These are just scars. I’ve gotten help and I’m happy now.” I brought my hands up to his perfectly chiseled face and stared right into his eyes. “I’m happy with you.”
I saw the fear slip away and his usual gorgeous smile crossed his face. I smiled back then pressed my lips to his passionately. His kisses were so perfect. It was as if our lips were meant to fit each other.
We heard the door swing open and Harry’s step dad walked in. Both of our heads snapped in his direction, hoping he hadn’t caught us.
“Harry, come on we have to go to the-” He began. His eyes met mine and he smiled. “Oh, hello Jocelyn, how are you?”
“I’m great! And you?” I replied politely.
“Not to bad. Umm, Harry I’ll give you five minutes then meet me downstairs, okay?” He said before swiftly walking out of the door.
“Alright, meet you there.” Harry replied as the door shut. He jumped off the couch and began to pick up some of his things. He hadn’t said another word to me. It was like he forgot I was even there.
“Umm, where are you going?” I asked, trying to sound as innocent as possible.
“I have to go to Thornwood for an interview.” He said, not making eye contact.
I furrowed my brows in confusion. “You’re doing an interview without the boys? And Thornwood is an hour away.”
Harry had already walked over into the bathroom. “Well, yeah because they really want an interview and I told them the boys weren’t here but they said that it would be fine with just me.”
To me, that still made no sense.
“Okay, well when will you be back?” I said, watching him slip on his shoes at the front door.
“Later tonight, don’t worry.” He said.
After he had both his shoes on and was ready to leave, I got up off the couch and ran over into his arms.
“Don’t screw up, babe.” I said, staring into his eyes.
“Thanks for the advice, love.” He replied, exposing his dimples.
He lightly kissed my forehead and rushed out the door. I crossed my arms over my chest, still a bit confused as to why he wouldn’t tell me he had an interview today. I let the thought escape my head. I had to stop being so suspicious.
I walked back over to the couch to grab my things and head back over to my room, when I found something odd. A paper with an address on it.
***
43 Kensico road
Thornwood, NY
***
I figured that was where Harry was going for the interview. But I turned the paper around to find something that crushed me inside. He had lied to me again.
***
Claire’s address

Superstar - Chapter 30
I stared down at the piece of paper in disbelief. Suddenly, I began to rage with betrayal. I violently ripped up the address and rushed back over to my room. I slammed the door on my way in, scaring my mom. Shit.
“Jocelyn!” She shouted angrily. “Don’t you dare let me catch you slam that door ever again!”
I didn’t say anything back. Instead, I scowled to myself and swung the door back open. I ran out into the hallway and down into the main stairwell. As soon as I was sure I was alone, I slid down the cement wall, dropped my head into my lap and began to cry.
I really wasn’t sure why I was crying so much. It just absolutely destroyed me to think he would lie to me again. Why the hell would he go back to Claire’s house anyways? And with his family too.
Jocelyn, snap out of it. I thought to myself. You can’t just sit here and cry. That’s not going to do anything.
I decided to listen to myself. I got up off of the cold, paved ground and dragged myself back to my hotel room. I opened the door slowly, making sure my mom wasn’t there and grabbed my phone.
Without hesitation, I punched in Harry’s number and ran back out of the room. I had to go somewhere where no one could hear me. My first idea was to run into the towel closet just down the hall. I shut and locked the door and waited nervously as the phone rang for what seemed to be forever. But, no answer. I angrily threw my phone down onto the floor, frustrated and cupped my face with my hands again.
What do I do? I contemplated with myself. How the hell will I face him? What do I tell him the next time I see him?
I couldn’t just accuse him of cheating on me again because what if he wasn’t? I snapped up my head in realization. He’s not cheating. I felt like an idiot now. His parents were probably really close with Claire’s parents too and they wanted to catch up or something. Harry probably just didn’t want to tell me because he would think I would be doing exactly this. Accusing him.
I rubbed my temples, frustrated. I’m such a jerk.
I decided I would just pretend I never found the paper. ‘Harry is at an interview. Harry is at an interview.’ I kept telling myself. I eventually calmed myself down. When I felt I was better, I stood up and unlocked the door of the closet and began to walk out.
Just then my phone started to ring again. I glanced down at it to see it was Harry returning my call. I panicked.
Now what do I say?!
I decided to just ignore the call and pretend I didn’t hear my phone. That was a stupid plan. Harry called back at least three times. I started to feel guilty so I answered the phone. I was going to wing it.
“Hello?” I said.
“Jocelyn, hey. you called?” He said innocently.
“Umm, yeah. Sorry, I umm, butt dialed you.” I said.
I sniffled and wiped away the remainder of my tears before continuing.
“So how-” I began, but Harry interrupted me.
“Have you been crying?”
Shoot, It’s noticeable! I panicked.
“Umm, no. Why?” I said, trying to cover up my crackled voice.
“What’s wrong?” He asked persistently. He wasn’t going to let it go.
“Nothing. Really, I’m fine.” I replied convincingly.
“Jocelyn, tell me what happened.” He demanded.
I bit my lip nervously. Just tell him the truth.
“Okay, fine.” I managed to choke out. “Let’s just say that I know that you’re not going to an interview.”
Harry didn’t respond.
“Harry?”
Still silence. He was making me feel guilty now.
“Hello?”
“Jocelyn, please don’t be mad at me. I promise I’m not cheating on you it’s just that my parents-“
“Harry, it’s okay. I know. I believe you.” I assured him.
“Are you sure?” He didn’t sound too convinced. “Then why were you crying?”
“I was just upset that you lied to me but I understand now. I was being too overprotective and you thought I would be mad at you if I knew you were going to Claire’s.”
“Wait, how did you find out?” He asked, completely ignoring what I had just said.
“I found her address.” I said. “You left it on the table.”
“Shoot, Joss. I am so sorry. I shouldn’t have lied to you.”
“Harry, really. It’s okay.” I assured him. The conversation was getting very awkward now. I really didn’t know what else to say.
“Thanks, Joss.” He said, changing the tone of his voice from upset to jolly. “I promise, I won’t lie to you anymore.”
I hated myself at that point. Because I didn’t believe him. I still couldn’t trust him. But, he did nothing wrong. It confused me even more to think that right then, I was the bad guy.
“Can I tell you something? Now that were being honest?”
I chuckled fakely. “Go ahead, tell me something.”
“I love you.”
My heart skipped a beat. Why did he have to be so hard to resist. He knew exactly what to say at the perfect time. “I love you too, Haz.”
Suddenly, I felt panic shoot throughout my body as Harry shouted, “Dad! Watch out!”
I heard a huge crash and Harry was gone. My face went pale and my stomach churned.
No, no, no, no, no.
“No!” I screamed.
Superstar - Chapter 31
Suddenly, all of the wind was knocked out of my body. This couldn’t be happening. Car crash.
I jumped up from the floor and sprinted over to my room as fast as I could. My mom was standing there, arms crossed over her chest, scowling at me. But her expression changed and I could tell she saw the pain in my eyes.
“Jocelyn, what happened?!” She muttered sympathetically, walking towards me.
I threw myself into her arms and sobbed. “Harry.” I choked.
“What happened to Harry? Did he hurt you?” She asked, concerned.
I continued sobbing, trying my best to control myself. “I think- I think he may of got into a car crash.”
My mom loosened her grip on me and I could see the fear in her eyes. “Where is he?”
“I don’t know!” I screamed through my tears, wiping them off my face with my hand.
“Okay, Joss. Go call 911. Were going to make sure they find him.” My mom ordered, throwing me the phone.
I nodded and rushed to dial 911. I was praying to god that Harry was alright. He was the piece I was missing all of these years. I couldn’t live without him.
-
I sat on my bed, waiting to hear from the hospital. They had just notified me that Harry and his family had checked in. Harry’s mom and step-dad were going to be okay. They just had minor injuries but the doctor said that Harry was in a pretty bad state. Apparently he was unconcious but still breathing.
I was really confused as to why Harry got most of the impact but it turns out that a truck had run a red light and smashed into their car from the side.
I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t even sure I wanted the hospital to call me back. What if Harry was…
I couldn’t even think it. Harry had to be alive. I wiped away my tears and crawled under the covers of my bed. It started off as just a way to relax while waiting for the phone to ring but I slowly dozed off to sleep.
***
“Joss!” Harry screamed from the room next to me. “Help me! Help!”
“Harry, I’m coming!” I shouted back.
I tried to run but I couldn’t. I was stuck. I struggled to run to Harry while he was shreaking in pain but I couldn’t. Something was pulling me backwards. I couldn’t save him.
“Joceelyyyynnn!!” He screamed again. “Hurry!”
“I’m trying! I’m trying!” I screamed through my tears.
I couldn’t give up, I had to keep trying. My body was overtaken with pain at the sound of Harry’s screams. I couldn’t take it. It killed me inside to hear him in pain and knew I couldn’t help him.
Suddenly, Harry stopped screaming. I stopped struggling to run and tried to listen for him.
“Harry?” My voice echoed in the large, empty room.
No answer.
“Harry! Harry!” I screamed trying to run again. “Noooooooo!”
***
I shot up into a sitting position, terrified by my dream. I turned to my side table to see my cell phone had 3 missed calls. I quickly lunged at it and checked to see if the hospital had called me. They did.
I decided to call them back and waited anxiously as the phone rang, my stomach twisting and turning more and more at each ring.
“Hello, New York City hosptal, how may I help you?” Said the lady on the other end of the call.
“Umm, hi. It’s Jocelyn. The hospital called me earlier about my friend, Harry.” I muttered, struggling to stop the tears from rolling down my face as his name rolled off my tongue. “Harry Styles.”
“Oh, yes. I will transfer you to his doctor.” She said helpfully. “Hold on.”
I shook of fear in my bed, chills rushing through my body.
Harry’s okay. I assured myself. Harry’s okay.
“Hello this is doctor Gray speaking.” Harry’s doctor spoke calmly.
“Hey, it’s Jocelyn.”
“Oh, hi honey. How are you?” He asked politely. I could tell he was trying not to worry me.
“Is he dead?” I choked, my eyes filling up with tears again.
The doctor didn’t respond right away.
“Is he?” I asked again.
“No, honey. Harry is alive.” He assured me.
It astounded me that doctors could remain so calm. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the stress of knowing you have someone’s life in your hands. Someone that people love with all of their hearts. And if you screw up, you ruin the lives of everyone who ever loved that person.
“Can I come see him?” I sobbed.
“Umm, honey he isn’t stable right now but I can call you-“
“I love him.” I interupted. “Please let me come and see him.”
Dr. Gray sighed, seeming to consider the thought.
“Alright, but only because I don’t know if he’ll make it.” He murmered.
My heart sunk in my chest. “What did you say?”
“He’s hurt pretty bad, Jocelyn. I’m not sure if you want to come and see him.”
“I’ll be there soon.” I spat.
I hung up the phone, still shaking in fear. I didn’t care what that doctor said. I wasn’t leaving Harry alone.
“Mom, let’s go.” I shouted, slipping on my shoes. “Harry’s alive.”
Superstar - Chapter 32
HARRY’S P.O.V.
I woke up in a hospital bed. Not aware of what just happened to me. The whole room was blurry and I couldn’t quite make out who was in it. But I didn’t acknowledge them. Instead I drew my attention to my arms which were all black and blue. I tried as hard as I could but I couldn’t remember what had happened to me.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain run through my whole body and shreaked. Everyone in the room ran towards me. I couldn’t hear them at all. I noticed there was just a loud ringing in my ears. Suddenly everyone started putting their hands all over me and it made me very uncomfortable. I couldn’t even think over the amount of pain.
“Stop!” I shreaked. “Stop it!”
I felt someone grab onto my hand. I squinted my eyes, trying to see who it was. Jocelyn. I squeezed back and watched her smile through what seemed to be tears. She had been crying.
“Jocelyn, don’t cry.” I managed to choke out.
I watched her sob even harder at the sound of my voice. ”I’m okay, I’m oka-oww!”
Someone had pulled my leg forcefully, causing an even sharper pain to rush through me. I began to re-gain my hearing and heard the doctor mutter something to Jocelyn. I could just make out her response.
“No!” She protested. “I’m not leaving him!”
He had told her to leave. I didn’t want her too. I needed her here. She was the only thing keeping me sain.
“No! Jocelyn, stay here!” I screamed.
“He’s very unstable. We might have to go into immediate surgery.” Said one of the doctors.
I still couldn’t make out the situation. What happened to me?
Jocelyn’s P.O.V.
I sat on a hard, wooden stool next to Harry’s bed, clenching onto his hand with my life. He looked horrifying. His face was all puffy and swolen, blood dripping everywhere. There wasn’t one part of his body that wasn’t hurt. It killed me to watch him suffer like that. I just wanted it to end. I couldn’t take it anymore.
“What is happening to him!” I shreaked.
Harry had just begun shaking, his eyeballs frozen, staring off into the distance. His hand slipped from mine and the doctors all rushed over to the table. One of them took 2 rectangular pieces of metal and began rubbing them together.
“Clear!” She shouted before pressing them to Harry’s bare chest. He immediately stopped shaking but his heart rate was slowing down. I sat in fear on the stool, tears streaming down my face.
The doctor rubbed them together again. “Clear!” She shouted, and shocked him once more.
I closed my eyes and clenched his hand again. “Please be okay, please be okay. Harry, please.” I whispered, stuttering on my words.
Suddenly, everyone in the room stopped. I looked around to try and figure out what was happening.
“He’s stable. But not for long, somebody give him something to make him sleep then take him into the operation room.” Doctor Gray ordered. While all of the doctors scurried to move him off of the table, I eyed doctor Gray, pleading.
He sighed. “Let Jocelyn come too.”
He threw me a mask and green shower cap. “But wear this.”
I ran over with the other doctors through the halls of the busy hospital, still holding Harry’s hand. I watched his limp body shake with the movement of the gurdy. When we got to the operation room, I crossed my fingers hopefully as they strapped a sleeping mask onto Harry.
“I don’t know if this is such a great idea.” One of the doctors said. “He’s too weak.”
“But it’s his only chance, Grace.” Another doctor replied.
“What if he doesn’t make it?” She spoke nervously.
The second doctor looked around at all of the others then stared down at Harry’s body. “We have to try.”
I felt a huge lump form in my throat. I looked down at Harry’s swolen eyes once more before I stepped away from the operating table. I watched them remove a piece of glass from his stomach and another from his arm.
“He’s bleeding excessively, what do we do?!” Grace shouted.
The second doctor gave me a serious glare. “Honey, go get doctor Gray right now.”
I nodded and ran out of the room without hesitation, prepared to do whatever it took to save Harry’s life.
Superstar - Chapter 33
Harry’s P.O.V.
I opened my eyes, this time slower. I though maybe I would get lucky and all of this pain, all of this horror was a dream. But I woke up in the hospital, where I was before.
I didn’t know who was there but I knew that the first person I wanted to see was Jocelyn. Unfortunately, she was nowhere in sight.
I pushed myself to sit up in my bed, struggling to make the image more clear. That was when I realized that my whole body was completely numb. I clenched my teeth, baring the pain shooting up into my thighs as I sat up.
I scanned the small cubicle in confusion. There was no one in my room. At least, I didn’t see anyone. If there was someone there, they were being covered by the hospital curtain.
“Jocelyn?” I shouted, in hopes she would emerge from behind the plain green curtain. But no answer.
“Mom? Doctor Gray?” I whimpered. No one was answering to me. That angered me.
I had to go find Jocelyn and have her explain to me why I was in the hospital in the first place. I still had no idea.
I swung my numb legs off the side of my bed and pushed myself off in attempt to stand up. I was being restricted by the needles stuck in both of my arms. I ripped them out angrily, setting off a loud, obnoxious alarm. I rolled my eyes and tried taking a step forward. The whole room began to spin. My legs shook as I walked.
It took all of my strength to keep my balance. But my strength alone, wasn’t enough. My helpless body gave up and I collapsed to the ground. I shrieked, my whole body pounding in pain. I couldn’t get up. I looked around again for a doctor, a person, someone, anyone to help me up. But again there was no one.
Something suddenly began spewing across the floor. A thick, red liquid spreading from what seemed to be both sides of my body. It wasn’t long before I realized it was coming from my arms. I started to panic, wondering if that meant I was going to die.
All of a sudden I heard the door to my room swing open and four doctors rushed in. I was so relieved to see them. Two of the doctors grabbed me by the arms while the other two took my legs and I was thrown back into my bed. They strapped the needles back into my arms immediately, then checked my blood pressure.
“Are you nuts?” I heard a familiar voice call out. I turned my head to see Jocelyn and a huge smile crossed my face. She had her long, brown hair pulled back into a high ponytail, her arms crossed over her chest in disappointment.
I shrugged. “Maybe a little.”
She walked over to my bed and sat beside me. She sighed and began twirling her fingers through my curls. Her deep blue eyes shun into mine in heartache.
“I was so worried about you, Harry.” She said, tears welling up in her eyes. I saw her pain and grabbed onto her hand.
“To be honest, I don’t even know what happened to me.” I told her innocently.
Slowly, she explained to me everything that had happened. From the car crash, to the first night in the hospital; everything. I was shocked beyond belief.
“I thought you were going to die. Everyone said you were going to die. She choked on her words. I could tell she was just as frightened as I was. I slid over to make room for her to lie down next to me. When she did, I cradled her delicate body against mine.
“It’s okay, Joss.” I hushed her. “I’m alive. I’m here with you.”
She smiled and looked up into my eyes. “They said it was a miracle that you lived through the surgery.”
Surgery. That explains it.
“It’s all okay now, though. We can go back to the hotel later and forget this ever happened.” I said optimistically, hoping to lighten the mood.
Jocelyn’s smile fled her face. “Harry, It’s January third.”
My heart dropped to my toes. “What?” I muttered in disbelief. “No.”
I refused to believe it. It couldn’t have already been a week.
“You went into a coma after the surgery. You woke up for the first time about an hour ago and Doctor Gray called me. But when I got here, they told me you had gone back to sleep.” She murmured. I could tell it was hard for her to talk about it. Her eyes were bloodshot like she hadn’t slept. I felt horrible for keeping her up, probably worrying about me.
“Wait, so I’ve been sleeping for a week?” I asked, still shocked out of my mind.
She nodded. “And my plane leaves for Wisconsin tomorrow at eleven thirty in the morning.”
After I thought my day couldn’t get any worse, it had just hit rock bottom. Jocelyn couldn’t leave; not now. I felt tears fill my own eyes. I squeezed Jocelyn’s hand with all of my might. A lone tear fell down my cheek and I looked her straight in the eyes.
“Jocelyn, no.” I stuttered. “No, no, no, no, please no. Stay longer, don’t leave me.”
She placed her hands on my cheeks and pressed her lips to mine gently, shutting me up. When she pulled away, she slid off of my bed.
“Jocelyn, where are you going?” I spat.
She didn’t respond. Instead she walked over to the small, brown couch across the room and grabbed a cushion. Then she turned back around and walked back towards me.
“This isn’t exactly a rooftop, but I think It’ll work.” She said, slipping herself under the covers. I smiled bluntly to myself as she wrapped her arms around my waist, remembering our first date.
“I think I like this better.” I replied, kissing her forehead.
We lied in silence for a while, appreciating each others company. I knew she was the only one I wanted to be with. But I wasted a whole week to prove that to her. Tomorrow, she’ll go home and that may be the last time I ever see her. I cringed at the thought.
“I’m going to miss you.” She said. I could tell she had began crying again. “A lot.”
I rubbed her back up and down soothingly. I didn’t want her to cry. I didn’t want her to hurt.
“I’m going to miss you too.” I admitted. “But let’s not think of it as goodbye. Let’s think of it as ‘I’ll see you later’.”
She smiled. “I like that idea.”
I felt her hug me even tighter, causing me to flinch in pain.
“Sorry!” She muttered, loosening her grip.
“No, don’t worry. It’s a good pain.” I joked.
I heard her giggle through her tear. it made me feel better to hear her laugh. It was kind of like a relief. Like I knew she wasn’t as broken as I was.
“I’m not going to lie, I’ve been a mess this last week.” She mentioned, changing the subject. “I couldn’t think straight.”
She made it easy to make me feel guilty. Her bright blue eyes drooping with sadness.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“
“No, It’s not your fault. It’s just that, well,” She paused. “I love you.”
“I love you more.” I had to make her feel like just because I was hurt, didn’t mean I was broken. I was still Harry.
“Pfft, never! That’s absolutely preposterous!” She exclaimed.
“Is it?”
We both laughed and resumed our silence. With Jocelyn, even silence made me feel much better. Just knowing I had the pleasure to call her mine was breathtaking. At that point, I was really dreading the moment that she would have to get on that plane.
“It’s late, we should go to sleep.” I suggested.
“I might not be here when you wake up.”
“I’ve been sleeping for a week, I’m plenty rested. But by the looks of it, you haven’t slept at all. So why don’t you go to sleep and I’ll stay up and protect you.”
That made her chuckle. I smiled and pecked her nose.
“Goodnight, my love.” I managed to choke out, fighting back the tears.
“Goodnight, Haz.” She said, then she pressed her lips to mine for what could have been the last time.
Superstar - Chapter 34
Jocelyn’s P.O.V.
I grabbed my purse off of the brown chair and turned to look back at Harry’s sleeping corpse one last time. I felt tears begin to stream down my face as I walked towards him. I stood over him, admiring the way his chest rose each time he took a breath. I placed my hand on his head and stroked his curls gently before finally turning on my heel and walking out of the hospital room without looking back.
-
“Are you ready, Honey?” My mom called from her side of the hotel room.
“Yes! Just give me two more minutes!”
I quickly piled my hair into a messy bun on top of my head and applied a clean coat of mascara to my tired eyes. I barely slept at all. I was to worried that once I was asleep, I would toss and turn and hurt Harry.
Harry.
I took a deep breath and shook my head. I had to stop thinking about him. I was never going to see him again. It was better off this way, anyways. We were never meant to be together. I was just a stupid loser with one friend and he was a superstar. If any of his fans found out he was dating me, I’d probably get bombarded with hate. I was fine with the idea that it was fun while it lasted.
Everything that day was happening so slow. From the packing, to the security check, to waiting for our flight. But the slowest part of the day was when our plane finally arrived and it was time to board.
Walking through the shuttle onto flight 286 was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I kept looking back, waiting for Harry to run out of nowhere like in those romance movies. But I walked straight into the plane without a single interuption.
I sat down hesitantly in my seat beside my mother who noticed I was uneasy right away.
“Jocelyn, what’s wrong?” She asked as I stared out the window, ready to take off.
“Oh, umm.” I tried to come up with a quick excuse. “I’m just scared of planes, you know that.”
My mom smiled accusingly.
“Don’t worry, Joss. Planes are safer than cars!” She said, wrapping her arms around me. I sat stiff in her hug, not moving. She laughed and rubbed the top of my head, messing up my bun. I scowled in her direction then looked back out the window.
“Flight 286 is ready for takeoff. Please fasten your seatbelts.”
That was the last thing I heard before the engines began to roar and before I knew it we were up in the air. I was going back to Wisconsin. The place where everyone knew my name, but not because I was popular. The place where I never felt wanted. The place that I was so relieved to be leaving at the beginning of the Holidays.
My heart wasn’t in that place. My heart was with Harry in the hospital bed, where I left it.
Superstar - Chapter 35
Harry’s P.O.V.
“Where is she?!” I shouted at the top of my lungs. I had woken up that morning and Jocelyn wasn’t in the hospital bed. Not only was she lost, apparently so was my mind. I was so overwhelmed with the fact she had left that I wasn’t thinking straight.
I was going absolutely crazy.
How could she not wake me up? Why did she leave without telling me?
“Harry,” Doctor Gray said, slowly walking towards me. I now had enough strength to walk. I didn’t know if that meant I was recovering or if I was just so angry that my strength had multiplied. “You need to calm down, okay?”
I shot an evil glare directly into Doctor Gray’s eyes. “Calm down?! You want me to calm down?!”
“Look, Harry. I know you’re upset but it’s not good for your blood pressure to be-“
“I don’t care!” I exclaimed. I really didn’t know why I was refusing Doctor Gray. I just wished Jocelyn was still here. I didn’t even get the chance to tell her I loved her.
“Harry, please.” Doctor Gray put his hand on my shoulder. “Sit, I want you to tell me what you’re feeling right now.”
I stood there in front of him, panting, trying to catch the breath I had lost from yelling. He rubbed my arm up and down in attempt to calm me down. I awkwardly stared at the ground, uncapable of saying anything. The pain of waking up, knowing Jocelyn was gone was worse than the pain of the crash.
I tried my best but I couldn’t hold it in anymore. Without thinking, I dropped onto my bed and began to sob. It wasn’t long before Doctor Gray sat down beside me. The look on his face showed me that he felt my pain. I turned to face him, dry tears falling down my cheeks. I opened my mouth but it was hard. I didn’t know what I wanted to say to him.
“Doctor Gray?” I managed to choke out through my sobs. “I need to get out of the hospital.”
He sighed. “Harry, you can’t leave yet. You haven’t fully recovered.”
“But I have to go find Jocelyn!” I protested, working up my anger once again.
“No, Harry stay calm.” Doctor Gray ordered. I was starting to feel a little embarassed. I must have been acting like a crazy person. “Look, you have two more days here and then you can leave. I promise. I know what you’re feeling and I wish I could let you go but I can’t yet.”
I swallowed deprivingly. I knew it was better for me to stay but I didn’t want to. “Did the boys call?”
“Actually, yes they did. They’re coming to see you tomorrow.” He said, obviously trying to cheer me up.
“Okay.” Was all I managed to say. Then I shot him a weak smile and he returned the favor, tapping my back. He stood up from the bed and walked out of the room without another word.
Once he was gone, I spied around the room for a way out. I was not going to stay in that hospital, I didn’t care what Doctor Gray said. Luckily, I was on the first floor so all I had to do was find a window.
I threw myself off of my bed and ran over to the door of my room. I spun the knob and opened it slowly, then popped my head out observently. The hallway was clear.
I ran out of my room barefoot, taking about 5 steps before stopping to listen for any sign of someone coming. Nothing. I kept running until I found the nearest public restroom. I didn’t know much about that hospital, but I knew that the closest one was around the corner. I carefully peaked my head out from behind the cold wall. When I didn’t see anyone, I sprinted over to the washroom and bursted open the door. As soon as I reached the window, I didn’t hesitate to throw my legs over the bottom frame and hop out onto the dried, yellow grass, barefooted.
Before I even had time to think, I began to sprint towards the busy, New York street. That’s when I realized I was still wearing the dirty, blue and green gown that the hospital had given me about a week ago. I was kind of disgusted but I had no time to shower or change. I had to get to the airport.
“Harry!” I heard Doctor Gray call from behind me. Busted. And I was so close.
I bit my lip and turned around slowly to face Doctor Gray. I was prepared at this point to get in huge trouble. But when our eyes met, Doctor Gray began to laugh.
He was leaning carelessly on the red brick wall of the hospital, arms crossed over his chest. “You’re not going to listen to me, are you?”
I grinned shyly then shrugged my shoulders. He was right, there was no way I was going back in there now.
Doctor Gray sighed sarcastically. “Well, I guess I can’t stop you then.”
My smile grew even wider and so did his. He understood me. “Go get her.”
Superstar - Chapter 36
I sat nervously in the taxi, the ringing of my phone pounding in my ear as I waited for Jocelyn to pick up. I tapped my foot repeatadly, feeling anxious. If she picked up, I knew that the first thing I would do is cry. Cry because of how much I wish I didn’t have to call her from a taxi, knowing she was about to go back to Wisconsin. To be honest, at the beginning of this trip, I did just see her as another girl to flirt with. But by this point, I was convinced that I wanted to be with her. I was convinced she was the one. I was in love.
After calling her back twice, still no answer. It went straight to the answering machine. After the third try, I gave up. It must of meant she was already on her plane. I dropped my head into my hands and clenched tightly onto my curls.
Now what? She’s gone.
Suddenly, my phone started to ring and my heart began to race. I prayed that it was Jocelyn returning my call but I was dissapointed to see it was Zayn calling. I let go of my excitement and answered the phone disstresly.
“What do you want, Zayn?” I spat. I really wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone.
“Woah.” Zayn said, offended. “What happened to you?”
“Oh you know, just got in a car crash and then went into a coma for a week and lost my girlfriend. Nothing special.” I replied sarcastically.
“Sorry bro, I didn’t mean to offend you.” He said sincerely.
“Whatever; just forget it. Why did you call?”
“Oh, umm. We just wanted to call and say hi. We were really worried about you.”
I sighed. I felt guilty now. “Thanks boys, but I’m fine.”
I heard whispering from the distance. I assumed it was probably the other boys.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You sound upset.”
I didn’t know how to respond to that because honestly, no I wasn’t okay. But I didn’t want the boys to think I was hurt.
“Where are you?” I asked, changing the subject.
“The airport, why?” Zayn replied suspiciously.
“Which airport?!” I exclaimed eagerly.
“The New York one, we just got through security.” Zayn said startled. ” Why? What’s gotten into you?”
They could find Jocelyn. This was my chance.
“Boys, I need you to do something for me.” I said.
“What do you-“
“Go find the flight to Wisconsin and see if it left already.” I interupted.
“Oh, we just passed that! I saw it!” I heard Liam exclaim in the distance.
I began to tap my foot nervously again, listening to them run back to what was supposedly Jocelyn’s flight. I only really heard shuffling until I heard Liam yell “There it is!”
I felt my stomach tie itself into a knot. I crossed my fingers, hoping Jocelyn was still there.
“Did this flight leave yet?” I heard Louis ask.
“I’m afraid so. The next flight to Wisconsin is tomorrow at noon” I heard.
My hopes crashed down on me. She really did go. That was it, I guess. I lost my chance with her forever.
“Sorry, bro.” Zayn said sympathetically.
“It’s okay, I’m almost at the airport. Do you think I could come home with you guys?” I asked.
“What do you mean? We just got here.” Niall said. “Were not going home.”
I sighed. That probably meant I had to go back to the stupid hospital.
“Niall’s right.” Liam said. “Were not going home.”
“Okay, I understand.” I said, annoyed. “You don’t have to-“
“Were going to Wisconsin.” Zayn interupted.
“Wait, what?” I asked, surprised.
“Well, you obviously really love that girl.” Louis said. “So we’ll take the next flight out.”
“How did you know I was talking about-“
“We know everything.” Louis said. I assumed now that I was on speaker phone.
“You’re a boob.” I said, slightly chuckling behind my breath. “I’ll be there in like, five minutes.”
I hung up and slouched back into my seat, dropping my phone in my lap. This wasn’t the end, I was going to get her back.
I felt my phone buzz again in my lap. I picked it up to see I had one new text. It was from an unknown number.
* Don’t come for Jocelyn
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion at the frail text.
* And if I do?
I waited patiently for a reply, twiddling my thumbs.
* Trust me, it’s better if you don’t
An unpleasant feeling began to unravel in my stomach.
* Who are you?
* No one important. Just don’t come to Wisconsin, okay?
Now I was angry.
* Look, I don’t care what you say. I’m coming for Jocelyn tomorrow.
* What if her life depended on it?
My stomach sank.
* What do you mean?
* Don’t come. Got it?
I didn’t know what to do at that point. My palms were sweaty and my mind was racing. I couldn’t let Jocelyn get hurt.
* Got it.
Superstar - Chapter 37
1 week later - Wisconsin, United States
Rumours had been spreading all over town. It was killing me inside to hear the things people had been saying about me. I only told Emma about what happened between Harry and I over Christmas break but somehow, everyone else had found out and unlike Emma, they didn’t believe it.
“What a dirty, lying slut.” I heard Lindsay say that morning.
“Yeah, who would be stupid enough to like her.”
“I bet you she’s preggers with some random dude and she tried to pass him off as Harry Styles because she thinks that would make everything okay.”
Hearing these things not only made me hate everyone else, it made me hate myself. It also made me regret sending that text to Harry. Now, I really wished he was here so I could prove everyone wrong. I could prove that he did love me. That I wasn’t a liar. But, this wasn’t a romance movie. He wasn’t going to happen that way. But no that I think about it, him not coming meant he cared about me. He didn’t want anyone to hurt me so he didn’t come. After all this crap, at least I knew he loved me.
Although, it still made me wonder how everyone found out, anyways. I only told Emma.
Emma.
I was on my way to the Cafeteria but stopped in my tracks and spun on my heel back towards Emma’s locker. I ran furiously through the hallways of my school, people snickering and whispering to each other as I rushed by. I tried my best to ignore them but that didn’t work out so well. I felt my eyes begin to tear up as I reached Emma’s locker, slamming it in her face.
Emma jumped back in surprise, a terrified look on her face.
“Was it you who did this to me?” I whispered through my clenched teeth. My arms were limp by my side as I waited for Emma’s answer. When she didn’t answer me, my hands formed into fists.
“Emma!” I exclaimed angrily, a tear rolling down my bright red cheeks. “Who did you tell?!”
Emma’s mouth dropped open but there were no words. She looked like she was about to say something but she was too afraid. “Emma-“
“I didn’t tell anyone.” She finally spoke weakly. I could still feel everyone’s eyes burning a hole through the back of my neck as I confronted her.
“Oh, really? You didn’t?” I spat. She shook her head hesitantly. “Then how the hell did everyone find out?”
Emma stood there, still in shock from my sudden rage. I crossed my arms over my chest and glared directly into her eyes. If she wasn’t going to tell me the truth, I wasn’t going to move.
“I don’t know! I don’t know how everyone found out, Joss! But I promise you, I didn’t tell anyone!”
I laughed sarcastically then resumed my anger. “Then who did? I only told you!”
“Isn’t this sad, Jocelyn?” I heard Lindsays voice screech in my ears from behind me. I kept my back facing her but I could tell a crowd had formed around her. “Blaming all of this on your best friend. That’s low.”
Everyone giggled under their breath, making me grind my teeth together in frustration. I gave Emma one more glare then spun around to face Lindsay. “Maybe you can tell me how everyone found out, then?”
She laughed. “Does it matter? We all know you’re a lying little brat so why don’t you just tell everyone the truth, pumpkin.”
I felt my eyes water again. This couldn’t be happening again.
Lindsay obviously saw the pain in my eyes because she immitated me by making a fake pouting face. “Aww, she’s crying. Poor little brat.”
That was it. I had enough. “Listen Lindsay, I don’t care what you say about me because I know the truth. And the truth is that-” I stopped in my tracks. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know if I should tell her the truth or just go along with what everyone else was saying. If I did tell the truth, everyone would still think I was lying. I would get hate either way. It seemed easier for me to just say I was lying.
I looked back up at Lindsay, who was standing, arms crossed, impatiently waiting for my outburst. “The truth is that you’re right. I didn’t meet Harry Styles.” I mumbled. “I lied.”
Everyone’s mouth suddenly dropped, filling the hallways with ooooooohhhhhh!’s and more laughing. I stood there helplessly, another tear falling down my face. I spun my head around to face Emma, who’s jaw was on the floor then looked away in shame. Without thinking, I ran away as fast as I could to the washroom, the schools laughter echoeing loudly in my head. Before anyone could catch me, I locked myself in one of the stalls. In one quick motion, I slid my back down the cold, white walls of the filthy washroom and cried hysterically.
It wasn’t long before Emma found me. “Jocelyn?”
I continued crying, listening to the sound of her echoeing footsteps make their way to my stall.
“Jocelyn, open the door.” She ordered.
“No.” I managed to choke.
Her voice was delicate. “Please?”
I sighed and unlocked the door slowly without having to stand up. When my eyes met hers, I saw heartbreak. I shouldn’t have blamed her like that. She crouched down beside me and cradled me towards her, while I cried into her neck. “I’m sorry, Emma.”
“Don’t apologize. If it helps, I would have blamed me too. It only makes sense.” She mumbled. “I promise you Joss, I will find who did this to you.”
I didn’t have the strength to say anything else. Instead I just cried harder.
Emma and I just sat in the stall for who knows how long, weaping. There were no interuptions until I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I had one new text. I shoved my phone to Emma and ordered her to read it to me. She nodded and read it aloud.
* Jocelyn, did you see my video?
“It’s from Harry.” She added.
I shot my head up. “What video?”
“I don’t know. I’ll ask him.” Emma replied, typing quickly on my phone.
There was a video? Maybe that’s how Lindsay found out. I really needed to see this.
“He sent you a link.” Emma said. “Should I click it?”
“No, you shouldn’t click it, Emma. He sent it to us because he just want’s us to stare at the link.” I said sarcastically.
“So, click it?” Emma said. I just stared at her stonefaced. “Click it. Got it.”
One the link opened, it brought us to One Direction’s youtube page. But unlike usual, it was just Harry in the video wearing a brown sweater. He seemed to be standing backstage somewhere.
“This is a message to a girl I met while I was in New York over the break. If you’re watching this, I need you to listen very carefully.” He said. I bit my lip nervously. “I love you. I love you so much. I don’t know, where you are or how to find you, but-“
He stopped and took a deep breath before continuing. “But I know that somehow you’ll see this and you’ll know that I haven’t forgot about you. And I never will.”
His eyes began to water, making mine water as well. He wiped his eyes and swallowed his breath again. “Jocelyn Maria Hynes. It’s really hard for me to live without you. And I don’t want to anymore. So please, if you see this, know I’m missing you everyday.”
I could barely breathe. I couldn’t believe no one had told me about this video.
“I can’t come and see you now but, wait for me. Promise me that you’ll wait for me. And I’ll promise that we’ll be together again one day. I don’t know when but, I need you to trust me.” A lone tear fell down his cheek and he smiled. “I love you.”
And the screen went black, only showing the replay button.
Superstar - Chapter 38
I turned to look at Emma, tears in my eyes and a huge smile on my face. Her mouth was wide open in surprise.
I couldn’t have been happier than in that moment. Everything had came crashing down on my shoulders and he just threw all of that away.
“Oh my gosh, Joss!” Emma squealed. “Do we get to rub it in Lindsay’s face now?”
I chuckled lightly, still trying to catch my breath. “Actually Emma, I think she’s already seen this video.”
Emma shot me a confused look. “Huh?”
“How else would she know about me and Harry? She probably saw the video, freaked out and then spread rumours that I was lying about dating Harry.”
Emma thought for a moment. “So now what?”
I looked away into the distance with a somewhat sinister smirk on my face. “We call Harry.”
***
I sat on the floor in my deserted classroom after school, speaking to a very tired Harry on the phone.
“So you’ll do it?” I asked hopefully.
“Alright. But I can’t be there until tomorrow.” He replied hesitantly. “Are you sure about this?”
“Yes, Harry. Trust me.” I said, getting impatient.
He sighed. “Okay, then I guess I’ll- OH WAIT!”
I pulled the phone away from my ear. “Ouch.”
“You sent me that text message didn’t you.” He said confidently.
“What text message?”
“The one saying to not come to Wisconsin.” He said. “Why didn’t you want me to come?”
I sighed.
“And why would you send a fake death threat on yourself? I was worried.”
“Because,” I took a deep breath as I prepared to tell him what was on my mind since the day we met. “Harry, there are billions of girls on this planet. And most of them are in love with you. You can get any girl you want and, I know that somewhere out there, there is a girl for you that’s better than I am. I thought that maybe it would be better for both of us if you just forgot about me and moved on.”
He didn’t respond. He left me in silence, my heart pounding. “Harry?”
“Never say that again.” He said firmly. “I almost died Jocelyn. And you know what I was thinking while I was in that hospital bed? I wasn’t scared to die. I was scared that if I died, I would have to leave you here.”
Everything suddenly froze. All I could feel were the butterlies fluttering in my stomach.
“So don’t ever say that there is someone better than you out there.” He said. “Because it’s not true.”
“I’m sorry.” I mumbled. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”
“It’s okay, Joss. I’ll see you tomorrow.” His voice was soft and raspy, just like I remembered it. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Harry.” I murmered. “Always.”
I smiled to myself and hung up my phone. I looked up for the first time and jumped back in surprise at Lindsay standing in the wooden doorway. How long had she been there?
“Hey, brat.” She said, her long blonde hair cascading her evil face. “Who was that on the phone?”
I clenched my teeth together in anger and stomped towards her until we were nose to nose. “Lindsay, you have no right to talk to me like that.”
“Who said?”
“Me.” I spat. “And that, was Harry on the phone.”
She was about to say something but I pushed myself closer to her, startling her. She didn’t say a word.
“I know why you’ve been telling everyone I’m a liar. It’s because you’re jealous.”
“Yeah, right-“
“You saw the video he made for me.” I interupted. “And you didn’t like it.”
Her face went blank. She had nothing to say. I had finally shut her up.
“You’re the real liar. But that’s okay because the truth will come out soon enough.” I made my way around her and proceeded to walk out of the classroom. “And when that day comes, it’s not going to be so great for you.”
Lindsay spun around to face me, each of us standing on either sides of the crooked doorway. “That’s not going to work out so well. You have no proof whatsoever.” She spat.
I smiled sinisterly. “You ever heard of karma, Lindsay?”
She gave me an evil glare.
“I heard it’s a bitch.” I finally said before walking out of my school, head held high. Lindsay wasn’t going to bother me anymore.
Not after tomorrow.
Superstar - Chapter 39
I walked into school the next day with a huge grin on my face. That was the day everything was going to change. I wasn’t going to be the outcast anymore. Not after Harry shows up and shows my whole school I was telling the truth. I was with Harry Styles; I was his girlfriend.
“Hey, Joss!” I heard Emma call from her locker just down the hall. She was smiling just as big as I was, her hand waving cheerfully in my direction. I waved back then ran towards her with my backpack rustling behind me. I threw myself into her arms and shook her side to side like we always did. “Hey, Emma!”
Once we pulled out of the hug, Emma couldn’t contain her excitement. “Oh my gosh, Harry Styles is coming here! Today! I’m so excited, oh my god. When is he coming? What time will he be here? What’s he going to be wearing? Is he already here? Because if he is, I’m not ready yet! I need to go fix my hair!”
“Emma! Calm down!” I ordered, grasping her shoulders. “Harry’s not here yet. He’s going to come around lunch period.”
Emma took a deep breath and calmed herself down. “So wait, what’s he going to anyways? Just show up and kiss you?”
I thought for a moment. Emma was right. What would he do once he got here? “Umm, no. We have something planned. It’s a surprise!” I lied.
The more I thought about it the more I realized that Harry coming to my school really wouldn’t prove anything. Yeah sure, everyone would believe he was my boyfriend but then what? He’s just going to leave? It would be a little embarrasing. Everyone would know I did it on purpose and even when I proved that I was telling the truth, I’d get hated for something new. It would never end.
“Jocelyn?!” Emma whined, waving her hand in my face. “Are you even listening to me?”
“Sorry, I’m just thinking about something.” How long had she been trying to get my attention?
“Your phone is ringing!” She shouted right into my face.
I stumbled, throwing my head in all directions looking for my phone that was indeed ringing. I quickly picked it up and answered it. “Hello?”
“Hello, angel.” Harry’s familiar voice sung in my ear causing me to smile like an idiot. “I just thought I’d let you know I’m here.”
My smile dropped. I was having second thoughts on this whole thing. “Oh, umm good! Good. Umm, alright then.” I didn’t know what to say.
Harry laughed. “You okay?”
“Totally! It’s just that, umm.” I took a deep breath. “I don’t know about this anymore.”
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“About you coming here.” I replied. “I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“Well, I’m not going back home. I just got here and I really want to see you.”
“Harry,” I moaned scratching my head. “Just go to my house and I’ll meet you there after school. Make yourself comfortable.”
“So, the plan is off?” He pouted.
“Yeah. Only because I shouldn’t be using you to prove myself. There’s no point. I’d rather be known as the liar than use you like that.” I said confidently. “And one day, they’ll find out for themselves that were together.”
I could feel him smiling through the other end of the line. “Alright, then. I’ll see you after school beautiful.”
“Can’t wait.” I smiled back.
I hung up the phone then drew my attention to Emma who’s jaw was on the floor. “Jocelyn!”
“What?” I muttered, sliding my phone back into my purse.
“Why did you do that?” She whined. “We were just about to crush Lindsay!”
“No, we weren’t about to crush Lindsay. We were going to prove I was right but I just realized that doing that isn’t going to fix anything. It will either make people hate me more or pretend to be my friend.” I explained. “I’d rather be insulted for something I know isn’t true then be loved just because I’m dating Harry Styles.”
Emma sighed. “I guess you’re right.”
I nodded, smiling to myself.
“Uh oh.” Emma said, wide-eyed. “Lindsay alert.”
I spun myself around and was startled by Lindsay standing inches away from me. “Hey, pumpkin.”
“Hey Lindsay” I said prepped with a plastered smile. “How are you today?”
Her face showed she wasn’t amused. “Okay, shut up. I know you don’t care.” She spat. “Where’s your boyfriend? I thought he was supposed to come and ruin my life today.”
“Yeah, I decided I’d let you bask in your glory for whatever time you have left.” I said, still smiling blandly. “Because in the future, you’re probably going to amount to nothing. Might as well let you savour this part of your life.”
I put my hand on mer shoulder and daggered her right in the eyes. “That’s the kind of friend I am.”
She shrugged my hand off her and scowled. “Ugh, You’re such a dunce. Well, I guess I’ll see you around or whatever.” She spat before pushing me out of her way and proceeding to walk in the other direction, her posse following behind her.
I felt Emma throw her hand onto my shoulder. “I’m proud of you.”
I laughed. “Thanks.”
“Now let’s just try to get through the school day and then we can go back to your house and see Harry.”
“Sounds good.” I agreed. I couldn’t wait to see him. I missed him so much.
-
Emma and I decided to walk home from school that day. She was a huge One Direction fan and couldn’t wait to meet Harry. I had to admit, I think she loved him more than I did. But not in the same way of course.
The walk from our school to my house was about twenty minutes long so we had a long time to discuss very important subjects.
“How does a cucumber become a pickle?” Emma asked, skipping a stone across the street with her foot. “I don’t get it.”
“Well, I think they use salt and other stuff to make it more bitter.” I replied, staring at the ground.
“I know but how the hell does it shrink? Do they put them in the dryer?”
I giggled. “I’m not too sure to be honest.”
We walked in silence for a little while with just the sound of the wind and Emma’s skipping stone in the background. I decided to step in front of her and kick the rock before she could.
“Hey!” She whined. “That’s my rock! Get your own!”
“No!” i exclaimed before chasing the rock rapidly down the street, almost tripping over my own feet. We competed against each other, trying to win the stone, laughing really hard while we were at it. I wasn’t watching where I was going and I assumed Emma didn’t either because I slammed into a girl about my age then Emma followed closely behind, slamming into me.
“I am so sorry!” I said. Then I looked up and realized it wasn’t only one girl in front of me.
There was a sea of people on my street. “What’s going on?”
“There’s supposed to be a concert right here!” The red-headed girl replied. I furrowed my eyebrows.
“When?” I asked suspiciously. I really didn’t want to know what Harry was up too.
“Like, right now! I’m so excited!” She squealed.
I nodded and thanked her before grabbing onto Emma’s hand and dragging her through the crowd, all the way to the front. There in front of me, was a huge stage equiped with 5 microphones and a drum set.
All the boys are here? I thought. No way.
I ran straight into my house, leaving Emma behind and called out for them immediatly.
“Harry!” I shouted. But all I heard was my voice echoeing back at me in my empty house. “Harry?”
“Hello everybody!” I heard project from outside. I immediately spun around and ran back in the other direction. I stopped in my tracks at the front of my driveway when I saw all five boys standing on stage. Harry was at the mic. “Before we start, I’d just like to make sure that a very special girl is here.”
I swallowed my breath. “Is Jocelyn here?”
A huge smile spread across my face at the sound of Harry saying my name. I watched him search the huge crowd carefully. When he didn’t see me, he turned to the front door of my house and our eyes met for the first time in a while. “There you are.”
I felt my heart pound against my rib cage as his face lit up with joy. “This song is for you.”
All of the boys took they’re positions. Niall had his guitar with him and he began to strum a familiar tune at the same tempo as the drums. I immediately recognized the song and almost burst into tears.

When the sun shines through my window,
I always think of you.
You’ve got the eyes of an angel,
you’re every dream come true.
That night, goes through my head.
I try to rewind.
My girl, you’re just, one, one,
one of a kind.
When I give up, and fall down,
you always get me through.
It reminds me of our love,
and everything with you.
When it comes, to times like this,
I love what you do.
It’s three words in every language,
it’s how much.
When I look across the skyline,
you’re runnin’ through my mind.
When trees sway in the nighttime,
you’re the one I find.
As the years go by slowly,
I want to hold you close.
I love you so much.
Girl you’ll never know!
When I give up, and fall down,
you always get me through.
It reminds me of our love,
and everything with you.
When it comes, to times like this,
I love what you do.
It’s three words in every language,
it’s how much, I love you. I love you.
When I give up, and fall down,
you always get me through.
It reminds me of our love,
and everything with you.
When it comes, to times like this,
I love what you do.
When I give up, and fall down,
you always get me through.
It reminds me of our love,
and everything with you.
When it comes, to times like this,
I love what you do.
It’s three words in every language,
it’s three words in every language.
It’s three words in every language.
It’s how much, I love you.

The whole crowd burst into screams and cheers as soon as the music stopped. The whole time, Harry staring right at me. I couldn’t hold myself back anymore. I ran up onto the stage and jumped right into his arms, hugging him as tight as I could, tears streaming down my face.
“I love you.” I whispered into his ear. I felt him smile against my skin. “So much.”
I pulled back just a little bit and he pressed his lips to mine passionately, spinning me around in the air at the same time, our lips never parting.
It was like the whole world stopped for a moment; we were the only two people.
Superstar - Chapter 40 ; Finale
The next day…
“Harry no, don’t leave me.” I murmured, a silent tear rolling down my cheek. “Please, just don’t go. I need you.”
Harry gave me a destroyed look. I could tell he was about to cry too. We just stared at each other, our eyes filled with unrepairable hurt. It took about a minute or so for Harry to finally drop his suitcase then run over to me, standing at the end of the hallway. Without hesitation, our lips crashed together. It might have been our last kiss and that broke my heart. I didn’t want to let him go. Once our lips seperated, I locked my arms around his neck, refusing to let him leave.
“Jocelyn, I need to go.” He said teary-eyed. “I’m sorry.”
“Harry, no.” I pouted. “I can’t live without you. You can’t just leave me again.”
“Well, what am I supposed to do?” ”Anything. Just don’t walk out that door.”
Harry didn’t respond. Instead he seemed to consider the thought of what I just said. He stopped refusing and wrapped his arms around my waist gently, a small grin planted on his face.
“Marry me.” He said.
My jaw fell to the floor. “What?”
“Marry me.” He repeated. He was serious.
“Harry, we’ve known each other for not even a month. Are you crazy?”
“I answered that question already in New York.” He reminded me. “I am crazy.”
“Were minors. It’s not possible.”
He licked his dry lips briefly. “Okay, fine. But you need to promise me something.”
I rolled my eyes playfully. “I assume I’ll have to trust you.”
He laughed. “Yes.”
“Okay, what would you like me to promise you Mr. Styles?” I smiled, my hands still locked around him.
“The day you turn 18, which is April 7th, you have to agree to marry me.”
“What?!” I exclaimed. “18?!”
“You heard me.”
He had obviously lost his mind. “I can’t get married at 18.”
He sighed.
“I mean, what if our relashionship doesn’t even work out, Haz?”
I saw heartbreak immediately set into his face. “Oh.”
“No, Harry you know I didn’t mean it that way.” I assured him. His hands dropped from my waist and dangled by his side. “I’m just saying. Let’s give it time.”
“But I’ll have to leave you.” He choked, tears starting to fall down his face.
“Distance makes the heart grow fonder.”
“Jocelyn, promise me.” He said stubbornly, clenching his teeth.
It was extremely hard for me to turn him down. His wet, emerald green eyes shun directly into mine.
“Harry-“
“Promise me.” The house filled with complete silence.
I let my own arms drop from around his neck and stared down at the ground. I couldn’t give him an answer. He just nodded and began to walk away from me, picking up his suitcase on the way out.
“I promise.” I whispered as he stepped out into the wintery air.
***
“So, what happened after that?” Joline, the interviewer asked. “Did he propose to you on your 18th birthday?”
I laughed and cradled myself into Harry’s arms, staring right into his eyes. “Yes, he did.”
He smiled his usual smile, pulling me close. “I was so surprised at first though. I didn’t think he’d actually do it!”
“Did she say yes the first time?” She added curiously.
Harry bit his lip. “Well, it took me about half an hour to convince her but eventually she said yes.”
“We compromised.” I added. “I promised to marry him but only after I finished high school and got my life organized again.”
“So, we ended up getting married two years later.” Harry said, now fiddling his fingers through my long brown hair.
“And now, Jocelyn there are rumours going around that you’re pregnant. Is that true?”
I smiled wild with enthusiasm and nodded my head. “It’s been confirmed that were having a girl.”
The audience applauded loud with energy. “Wow! Congratulations!”
“Thank you.”
“Well, there you have it folks. Harry and Jocelyn Styles!” Joline exclaimed and the audience went wild again.
“Thank you for sharing your story with us.”
“Thank you for having us!” Harry said, outstretching his hand to shake Joline’s.
-
“You did great, Joss.” Harry assured me. It was my first time doing a live interview and I was really nervous.
“Thanks.”
He pulled me into a tight hug, kissing my forehead gently.
“Umm, hey Jocelyn.” I heard a familiar voice ring, sending chills down my spine. No way.
I spun my head around to see none other than Lindsay. My eyes grew wide with surprise. I couldn’t believe she was here.
“Can I talk to you?” She said sincerely.
I haven’t seen her in ages! Why would she come and see us? “Yeah, sure.”
“Umm, I’m going to go talk to the boys.” Harry said before making a quick exit.
Once he was gone, I crossed my arms over my chest and waited for Lindsay to talk. She was rubbing her arm with her naked hand, biting her lip. I honestly really wanted to hear what she had to say to me. I wanted to know why she even came here in the first place. Whatever the reason was, it certainly wasn’t to gloat to me. She looked really nervous. “Why are you here?”
“I feel like I need to apologize.” She mumbled. “For, being horrible to you in High School.”
“Really? Or is it just because I’m-“
“No, I’m genuinely sorry.” She brushed a strand of her now short blonde hair away from her face slowly. “You were right. I amounted to nothing.”
I began to feel guilty now. “Lindsay-“
“No, it’s true. I have no friends, I have no job or any money, I have no boyfriend. I have nothing.” She seemed like she meant it. I didn’t know weither to be happy or sympathetic about it. “You were right. And I’m so, so sorry.”
I don’t know what came over me but, I believed her.
“Lindsay, I forgive you.” I said. A smile crossed her face in gratitude almost immediately and she threw herself at me, her arms locking around my neck.
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” She squealed. “I was worried I’d have to carry the guilt on my chest for the rest of my life.”
I laughed. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Jocelyn, I was so wrong about you.” She admitted fixing her shirt. “You’re perfect, okay? Don’t let anyone tell you different.”
I smiled. “Thank you, Lindsay.”
She just nodded then walked away. I watched her carefully as she stepped down the stairs, not realizing that I was zoning out. I was startled when Harry threw his arm around my shoulder.
“So I was thinking we name the baby Godzilla.” He said, cradling me close. “What do you think?”
I chuckled, my heart in my throat. “Yes, that’s a beautiful name Harry.”
“Or how about Lord Poopsalot.”
“She’s a girl.” I corrected him.
“Okay, Lady Poopsalot.” We started to walk back towards the exit door. “No wait, I like Doohicky better. Or thingymabob.”
“How about someting normal so that she doesn’t get beat up in school?” I suggested sarcastically.
“You mean like, Cornflake?”
I began to giggle. “Stop it, Harry.”
“Jigglypuff?”
“She’s not a pokemon.”
“How do you know that?”
I couldn’t contain my laughter anymore. “Why can’t you be normal?” I said through my giggles.
“Because normal is boring.” He said before kissing me passionately in the empty hallway.
-
Sometimes people are beautiful.
Not in what they look like, or what they say.
Just in who they are.
